Full Job Description

Description:

Well-respected Heavy Hwy Contractor in central Ohio has an immediate opportunity for a construction safety professional seeking to apply their acquired experience to work in a leadership role. This leadership role in safety & risk management will report to executive leadership while being the company's primary representation within key safety industry associations. The Director of Safety is responsible for ensuring the safety, health and environmental protection goals of the company are met, to prevent accidents and to eliminate or control exposures that could result in harm to our employees, subcontractors and traveling public.

Responsibilities:

Improving, monitoring and enforcing programs, policies and procedures to prevent accidents, eliminate or control exposures and comply with policies and procedures and regulations of local, state, and federal regulatory agencies in the various countries.
Oversight of companies over the road trucks & construction equipment DOT annual permits
Inspecting company facilities to identify existing or potential safety, health and environmental hazards. Recommending corrective actions or preventative measures and ensuring implementation of these measures.
Ensuring a thorough investigation of all job-related accidents and incidents; ensuring that appropriate root cause and corrective action is taken. Assists insurance and regulatory investigators with on-site investigations and inspections. Leads a crisis management team during large or catastrophic loss events.
Leading our Corporate Safety Committee.
Ensuring facilities and all job sites have suitable safety coverage and that Facility Managers and Facility Safety Coordinators are performing their safety related responsibilities.
Managing the services of our Worker’s Compensation loss prevention services.
Promoting our safety culture and leading programs to improve the company's overall safety culture.
Managing new hire orientation program, continuing education credits program & BWC participation credits program.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related field
Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures for excavation and utilities.
Strong leadership and influencing skills while being a team player
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong presentation and team facilitation skills
Minimum of 5 years of HSE management experience
Minimum 5 years in the heavy highway or heavy civil construction arena

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Safety Professional or equivalent

Salary:

Top of Market compensation package includes a competitive base salary up to $140k (depending upon experience) + a full range of benefits including a monthly truck allowance & fuel, health insurance, etc.
