GMAW (MIG) Pipe Welder – Temp-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
Overtime: Expected; shifts may extend until 4:30 PM
Lunch: 30-minute unpaid break

About the Position
We are seeking an experienced GMAW (MIG) Pipe Welder to join a fast-paced fabrication operation serving the fire sprinkler industry.
In this position, you will weld carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe using automated welding equipment and manual GMAW techniques. Although most production welding is completed by machine, candidates must have hands-on welding experience and be able to recognize weld defects, evaluate weld quality, and perform repairs when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
- Weld carbon steel outlets onto steel pipe used in fire sprinkler systems.
- Operate automated and semi-automated welding equipment.
- Perform manual GMAW/MIG welding on carbon steel pipe and fabricated assemblies.
- Complete specialty welding involving spool pieces, flanges, and related components.
- Inspect finished products for weld defects, proper dimensions, alignment, end preparation, and seam splits.
- Identify and repair weld discontinuities or failed welds.
- Read and follow production paperwork, work instructions, and fabrication requirements.
- Use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding station.
- Promptly report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, and safety concerns.
- Follow directions while taking initiative when appropriate.
- Meet established safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of GMAW/MIG welding experience.
- At least one year of machine operation experience.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
- Ability to identify basic weld defects and understand weld quality requirements.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
- Team-oriented attitude and ability to follow instructions.
- Availability to work required overtime, including shifts extending until approximately 4:30 PM.
Preferred Qualifications
- Carbon steel pipe welding experience.
- Pipe fabrication or fire sprinkler industry experience.
- Experience with outlet welding, spool fabrication, or flange welding.
- Experience operating automated or semi-automated welding equipment.
- Ability to repair weld defects and discontinuities.
Interview Welding Test
Qualified candidates must complete a hands-on welding test during the interview:
- Weld 1-inch outlets onto 2-inch steel pipe using the GMAW process.
- The completed weld will be evaluated through visual inspection.
- Candidates must bring their own welding helmet.
Candidates must wear or bring the following protective equipment for the test:
- Jeans or appropriate work pants
- Steel-toe or composite-toe shoes
- Welding jacket
- Welding gloves
- Welding hood or helmet
Employment Qualification Test
During the first week of employment, the selected candidate must successfully complete a Manual GMAW 2G Pipe Welding Qualification Test.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work around fabrication equipment.
- Ability to work safely around welding equipment, overhead cranes, machinery, and moving materials.
