Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg / Telemetry / PCU
Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: 13 weeks Contract with possible extension upto 1 year
Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts
Shift Options: Days and Nights
Shift Times: Approximately 7:00 AM–7:30 PM or 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Assignment: Travel / Contract Nursing
Pay: $2000 to $2100 for 36 hrs weekly
Job Overview
We are seeking experienced Travel Registered Nurses (RNs) for multiple Med Surg, Telemetry, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Stepdown, and Intermediate Care opportunities in Columbus, Ohio.
These positions are ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs, Telemetry RNs, PCU RNs, Progressive Care RNs, Stepdown RNs, Intermediate Care RNs, and Travel Nurses looking for their next contract assignment.
Multiple openings and shift options are available, including day and night shifts.
Candidates with strong acute-care experience who can safely manage patients requiring cardiac monitoring, complex medical care, frequent assessments, medication administration, and close clinical observation are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to adult acute-care patients.
- Perform comprehensive head-to-toe and focused nursing assessments.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, cardiac rhythm, oxygenation, and overall patient condition.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate provider.
- Administer medications safely according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Perform IV medication administration and manage peripheral and central venous access as applicable.
- Monitor patients receiving IV fluids, medications, antibiotics, and other therapies.
- Provide care for patients with multiple medical diagnoses and complex healthcare needs.
- Monitor patients requiring telemetry and cardiac rhythm observation.
- Recognize abnormal cardiac rhythms and escalate significant changes appropriately.
- Monitor oxygen requirements and respiratory status.
- Provide wound care and skin assessments.
- Manage drains, tubes, catheters, and other patient care devices as appropriate.
- Assist with mobility, activities of daily living, and patient safety.
- Implement fall prevention and infection prevention measures.
- Monitor intake and output and recognize fluid or electrolyte concerns.
- Review laboratory results and communicate clinically significant abnormalities.
- Provide patient and family education regarding medications, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and disease management.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning.
- Follow hospital policies, nursing standards, infection-control procedures, and patient-safety protocols.
PCU / Progressive Care Responsibilities
For PCU and Stepdown assignments, nurses may care for patients requiring a higher level of monitoring than a traditional medical-surgical unit.
Responsibilities may include:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring.
- Frequent vital-sign and clinical assessments.
- Management of patients with complex medical conditions.
- Monitoring patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, renal, or other acute conditions.
- Recognizing early signs of clinical deterioration.
- Managing patients requiring closer observation and intervention.
- Monitoring oxygen therapy and respiratory status.
- Managing IV medications and therapies.
- Coordinating care for patients transitioning between ICU and acute-care settings.
- Providing appropriate escalation when patient acuity changes.
Med Surg / Telemetry Responsibilities
For Med Surg and Telemetry assignments, nurses may provide care for patients with:
- Cardiac conditions
- Respiratory conditions
- Diabetes
- Infection/sepsis
- Renal disease
- Gastrointestinal conditions
- Neurological conditions
- Post-operative needs
- Chronic disease exacerbations
- Complex medical conditions
- Patients requiring telemetry monitoring
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in Ohio.
- Recent acute-care hospital nursing experience.
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- Med Surg
- Telemetry
- PCU
- Progressive Care
- Stepdown
- Intermediate Care
- Strong patient assessment skills.
- Strong medication administration and IV therapy skills.
- Ability to recognize changes in patient condition.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute-care environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to safely care for multiple patients with varying levels of acuity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel nursing experience.
- 2+ years of recent acute-care RN experience.
- PCU or Stepdown experience.
- Telemetry experience.
- Experience caring for high-acuity medical-surgical patients.
- Experience with cardiac monitoring.
- Experience with complex IV therapies.
- Experience with Epic or other electronic medical records.
- BLS certification.
- ACLS certification for higher-acuity/PCU assignments when required.
