The Medical Billing Specialist – Charge Analyst is a key member of our Billing team and plays an essential role in ensuring accurate, timely claim processing and reimbursement. This position focuses on analyzing and entering charges, reviewing CPT and ICD-10 coding, resolving payer edits, and managing accounts receivable follow-ups, including denials and appeals. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a high-volume, fast-paced environment where accuracy and efficiency are critical.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys working through complex billing scenarios, identifying and resolving inconsistencies, and navigating payer requirements. The Medical Billing Specialist – Charge Analyst collaborates closely with internal teams and may also support patient-facing billing needs such as payment collection, insurance verification, and benefit clarification. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential to ensure a smooth billing process and a positive overall patient experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Analyze, verify and process electronic provider charges and maintain a strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, insurance plans, various provider types, medical terminology
Analyze and resolve any payer edit discrepancies
Process and verify insurance eligibility by navigating insurance portals and communicating with payers to confirm mental health coverage details and contact patients to obtain updated information
Document insurance updates, contact information, and account notes accurately
Demonstrate a comprehensive and up to date understanding of the full revenue cycle process
Respond to inquiries from patients and staff regarding insurance coverage and billing updates
Provide a professional, supportive, and solutions-focused patient experience
Utilize practice management systems and technology tools effectively to complete daily responsibilities
Identify issues or discrepancies and escalate questions or concerns to the appropriate team members when needed.
Collaborate with colleagues, management, providers, patients and insurance representatives professionally
Maintain confidentiality of all medical providers, staff, patient information while being HIPAA compliant
Offer excellent customer service and patient experience
Ability to be mindful and work independently in a shared team environment

Other duties may include:

Insurance and patient account receivable follow-up, update patient account records, create payment plans, collect patient payments
Crosstrain duties within the Billing Department
Perform other duties as required by the Billing Manager and other management staff

Requirements:

Minimum of 1 year of medical billing experience required
Experience with CPT & ICD-10 codes
Experience with payer edits
Experience working with insurance portals and payer websites
10-key data entry experience required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general office systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
High school diploma or GED required
Current CPR certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment

Pay:

$20.00 - $25.00/ hour, depending on experience level

8-hour shift

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
