Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist to join our team! In this vital role, you will manage comprehensive bookkeeping functions, ensure accurate payroll processing, and uphold financial integrity across our organization. Your expertise will support our commitment to transparent financial practices and compliance with accounting standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization, ensuring smooth financial operations that empower our team and stakeholders.

Duties

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
Process payroll efficiently, including calculating wages, deductions, taxes, and benefits while adhering to all relevant regulations.
Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and general ledger accounts regularly to ensure accuracy.
Prepare journal entries for various financial transactions, including debits & credits, accounts payable, and accounts receivable entries.
Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and account reconciliation to verify the integrity of financial data.
Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections aligned with organizational policies.
Generate detailed financial reports, including budgets, financial statements, and GAAP-compliant reports for internal review or external audits.
Assist with tax preparation and compliance activities by maintaining precise records of expenses and income.
Support the development of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping and technical accounting practices relevant to nonprofit or corporate settings.

Skills

Extensive experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks (including QuickBooks Online), Xero, Sage, or similar software.
Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and accounting standards applicable to nonprofit or corporate environments.
Proficiency in spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) for data analysis, budgeting, and report writing.
Knowledge of payroll processing procedures along with experience in tax compliance related to payroll.
Ability to perform account reconciliation tasks accurately and efficiently using bank reconciliation techniques.
Familiarity with financial concepts such as general ledger accounting, journal entries, debits & credits, and double entry bookkeeping.
Excellent organizational skills with a focus on detail-oriented bookkeeping practices like 10 key typing and maintaining meticulous records.
Strong communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and collaborating across teams on financial matters.
Prior experience in public accounting or non-profit accounting is highly desirable; familiarity with technical accounting principles is a plus.
