Job Summary
Jefferson Township is a local government located in northeast Franklin County, serving an area of approximately 15.34 square miles with over 15,000 residents and 50+ businesses. Residents value the Township’s rural character, quiet atmosphere, and preserved open space, alongside convenient access to major regional employment, healthcare, retail and dining, and the John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
The majority of the Township is unincorporated, meaning Jefferson Township serves as the primary provider for local government services in those areas. The Township’s Service Department maintains more than 57 miles of roadways and associated infrastructure, including signage, rights-of-way, berms, curbs, sidewalks, and drainage systems. The Department also maintains four Township parks, public grounds, and five cemeteries, including the operation of two active cemeteries.

We are currently seeking a full-time Service Crew II employee to help maintain roads, parks, cemeteries, stormwater infrastructure, and township facilities. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills in heavy equipment operation, roadway maintenance, stormwater management, cemetery operations, and public works services while building a long-term career in local government.
Responsibilities and Duties

Provides snow and ice removal services using vehicles that require a Class B CDL.

Performs road maintenance, including traffic control, pothole repair, berm maintenance, street sign installation, and tree trimming.

Conducts stormwater maintenance, including reclaiming ditches, and repairing and replacing storm tiles and catch basins.

Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to Township buildings, facilities, and grounds, including painting, cleaning, fixture replacement, basic plumbing repairs, and general upkeep.

Handles groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and planting.

Opens and closes grave plots for cemetery burials and cremations; frames and pours headstone foundations.

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment used in roadway, grounds, cemetery, and stormwater maintenance, including dump trucks, snow plows, tractors, backhoes, boom mowers, chainsaws, wood chippers, and related equipment.
Qualifications and Skills
Required

Valid State of Ohio Class B commercial driver’s license and ability to maintain a valid DOT medical certification.

High School Diploma or GED.

Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the materials, methods, and techniques used in road and grounds maintenance.

Ability to perform a wide range of duties, often switching between tasks of varying nature and adjusting priorities quickly as needed.

Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with Township staff, elected and appointed officials, and the general public.
Preferred

Three years of experience in construction, maintenance, or public works.

Proficiency in operating vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, snow plows, backhoe, tractor, zero-turn mowers, etc.

Experience in clearing snow and ice from roadways.

Special Conditions
This position involves year-round outdoor work in varying weather conditions and requires the operation of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles.
The position requires an initial and regular DOT physical as well as a department physical, including a 50-pound lift test.
Work Schedule
The primary work schedule is 7:00am to 3:30pm Monday-Friday. Irregular hours will also be required, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Overtime, call-in, and on-call opportunities are available for snow and ice operations, emergency response, and seasonal work.
