Job Summary
Join the Lapham-Hickey Steel team as a Welder and bring your expertise in welding and fabrication to life! A Welder performs duties necessary to weld material according to customer specifications using welding equipment in the department. In addition to preparing orders according to customer specifications, a Welder is also responsible for the proper set-up, communication with proceeding shifts, safe operation and storage of materials and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret detailed blueprints, and welding symbols to accurately execute welds
- Perform MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding techniques on various steel components
- Operate rigging equipment and forklifts safely to position heavy materials for welding or assembly
- Conduct quality inspections using calipers, micrometers, and schematics to ensure precision in measurements and weld integrity to comply with customer specifications
- Follow all safety protocols adhering to ASME codes & standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of welding gases and materials -This includes regard for individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace
- Perform preventive maintenance as needed including (but not limited to) wiping down torches and equipment
- Perform other duties as needed given by the bay supervisor, lead person, or management.
Skills
- A minimum of one (1) year’s previous welding experience in an industrial atmosphere is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand measuring tools and equipment such as a tape measure, calipers, and micrometer. Along with the ability to read blueprints.
- Knowledge of welding equipment, materials, and fuels.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Ability to perform math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions as well as converting fractions to decimals or vice versa.
- Ability to lift and move up to seventy-five pounds, as well as lift and move heavier objects with the assistance of cranes, forklifts, or another employee.
- Knowledge of general shop procedures and rules including safety precautions.
- Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and work as part of a production team.
- Expertise in MIG welding techniques with the ability to produce clean, strong welds on steel
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools
- Familiarity with ASME codes & standards governing structural welding practices
- Knowledge of crane operation or forklift certification is a plus for material handling efficiency
Working Conditions:
Working conditions may consist of loud noise, vibratory tools, repetitive motions, airborne particles such as metal dust and chips and exposure to chemicals, fumes, and bright light. Hot environment during the summer and cold during the winter. Physical requirements include continual standing, walking, lifting, twisting with periodic bending, climbing, stooping, crawling, and crouching.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
