About Diamond Power
Diamond Power is building a 300 kW lean-burn natural gas generator set for commercial and industrial distributed generation. We intend to become world leaders in dispatchable, intelligent on-site power. The companies that win in distributed generation will not just build reliable hardware; they will build systems that think: optimizing for energy cost, grid conditions, and customer load in real time. That is what we are building toward. We are an early-stage company in a critical build phase, targeting an internal demo at our AEI test site by Q4 2026 and customer demos starting Q1 2027.
We are a small, technical team. Everybody here does real work. If you want to own a domain end-to-end at a company where what you ship matters, this is the right place.
The Role
We are looking for an Electrical and Software Engineer to join our controls and integration team. You will work directly with our Controls & Electrical Lead and Software/EMC Engineer, filling a critical coverage gap as we accelerate toward engine testing and AEI demo.
This is a hands-on role spanning genset controls, ECU software, site integration, and electrical systems. The right candidate is comfortable moving between writing software, reading schematics, and working alongside a test cell team to debug issues in the field.
What You'll Do
- Support configuration, tuning, and validation of the EasyGen genset controller (load sharing, frequency stability, synchronization, baseload non-export logic)
- Assist with ECU software development on the M670 open ECU platform: parameter mapping, fuel control, spark ignition, and air handling for a natural gas SI conversion from diesel baseline
- Develop and test Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) and power factor control loops; support alternator commissioning and electrical integration with the genset skid
- Write and validate site integration software, including building sensor interfaces, utility meter communication, and baseload setpoint control
- Support Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) integration testing, control panel wiring verification, and electrical safety review against UL 2200 and UL 1741
- Work with the test cell team at AEI during engine runs: instrument setup, data collection, real-time troubleshooting
- Document configurations, test procedures, and as-built electrical and software specs
- As the product matures: contribute to remote monitoring, data logging architecture, and energy management features
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with industrial or power generation controls: gensets, engines, variable-speed drives, or similar equipment
- Proficiency in embedded or controls software development (C/C++, Python, or equivalent). Matlab Simulink experience preferred.
- Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Comfortable in a test cell or lab environment. You are not just writing code; you are present when it runs
Nice to Have:
- Experience with engine ECUs, calibration tools, or open ECU platforms (M670, MOTEC, or similar)
- Familiarity with genset controller platforms (Woodward EasyGen, ComAp, Deep Sea, or similar)
- Background in grid-parallel power systems or distributed generation (UL 1741, IEEE 1547)
- Experience with CAN bus, J1939, Modbus, or similar industrial protocols
- PowerGen or engine OEM background (Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, Generac, or similar)
- Exposure to lean-burn natural gas or spark-ignited industrial engine applications
Who Thrives Here
We are not looking for a narrow specialist. The person who does well here has broad hands-on instincts and learns fast. You will be thrown at real problems early. Our team is small enough that there is no one to hand things off to. You own what you pick up.
This is a long-term hire. We are building a company, and we want someone who wants to grow with it. The right candidate is earlier in their career and eager to build something they can point to.
Compensation & Details
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Equity participation in an early-stage, venture-backed startup
- Direct exposure to the full arc of a hardware product, from test cell to customer demo to productization
