If you've worked in-house or hotel AV — Encore, PSAV, AVI-SPL, Freeman, or a property's own AV department — you already have most of what we're looking for.
You know how to turn a ballroom. You know how to patch to house and get along with a house engineer. You know how to lav a nervous VP two minutes before doors, chase down the right dongle, fix the scaling on a presenter's laptop, and keep general session running while nobody in the room knows anything went sideways.
What you probably don't have is anyone teaching you the next layer: broadcast switching, multi-camera, streaming, and real system design.
That's this job.
Who we are
Argus HD has run live and broadcast production in the Bay Area for 15+ years — corporate all-hands and town halls, tech and finance clients, and marquee work like Google I/O and the New York Times California Governor's Forum. We operate a purpose-built broadcast studio and a green screen stage out of South San Francisco, plus we go on the road for events across the Bay.
We're a small, senior team. Good work gets noticed in weeks, not review cycles.
What's different from where you are now
- Rate: hiring range is $32.00–$40.00/hr depending on experience, with a clear growth path to $50.00/hr as an L3 Technical Specialist.

- Modern kit you actually get hands on: Blackmagic ATEM, vMix, NDI, Dante, digital consoles, RF coordination, proper routing.
- A studio, not just ballrooms. You'll work in our broadcast studio and green screen stage, not only on the road.
- A ceiling that moves. Advancement is based on what you can do, not on a rotation waiting for someone to leave.
What you'll do
Live video and broadcast
- Load in and load out cameras, switchers, monitors, and support gear
- Patch and test video signal flow (SDI, HDMI, NDI)
- Set up and operate video switchers and systems (Blackmagic ATEM, vMix)
- Support the EIC and V1 with troubleshooting and system checks
- Multi-camera, monitor feeds, routing, ISO records, and stream paths
Live audio
- Set up PA, stage boxes, and monitor setups under the lead A1
- Run, label, and dress XLR and network audio lines
- Mic presenters and panelists — lav and handheld
- RF coordination and scanning in dense environments
- Sound check, level setting, and keeping the stage quiet and clean
Studio, shop, and prep
- Prep, test, and repack gear so kits are show ready
- Coil, label, and organize video, audio, and power cabling
- Basic inventory and case management
What we're looking for
- Real hands-on experience with live video and/or audio — hotel AV, in-house AV, corporate events, broadcast, houses of worship, freelance, or school productions all count
- Working fluency with signal flow and the basic vocabulary (FOH, BOH, input, output, mix minus)
- Comfortable with SDI, HDMI, XLR, and network cabling
- Reliable, on time, and professional in front of clients
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Available includes weekends and late nights, including past midnight when a show calls for it
- Able to report to job sites around the Bay Area (SF, South Bay, North Bay)
- Wants a long-term career in video, audio, livestreaming, and broadcast systems
Nice to have, not required: vMix, ATEM, Dante, Clear-Com, Shure/Sennheiser RF, streaming encoders, Wirecast, Resolume, or any switcher time at all.
Growth path
L1 — Technical Tech. You support builds and shows, handle shop work, and follow checklists while you learn our systems and workflows. You already know the basics of gear and signal flow.
L2 — Event Technician. You can set up most video and audio systems on your own — vMix, ATEM, standard PA — from cases to signal flow. You need limited support from a lead or EIC to tie into the full show and confirm routing, and you can build and run a standard show position with minimal supervision.
L3 — Technical Specialist. You can build the full show system, video and audio, and operate as lead at your position. You support EIC, V1, and A1 level roles. You understand the full signal path end to end, can talk directly with clients and producers, and can troubleshoot complex setups with confidence.
Most people coming out of hotel AV land at L1 or L2 depending on what they've actually built solo.

Pay: $28.00/hr
Shop-based role focused on prep, testing, and packing of video and audio gear and inventory. Best fit for someone who wants to learn the gear from the ground up and move into show work. Same L1→L3 growth path applies.
