Job Title: Project Engineer
Salary Pay: $80,000 – $95,000, depending on experience
Reports to: Corporate Engineer
Position Summary:
The Project Engineer supports Hedrick Industries’ engineering and capital project initiatives across multiple aggregate operations. This position combines 3D design, drafting, project planning, fabrication coordination, and field support to help develop and execute plant improvement projects.
The Project Engineer will work closely with operations teams, fabrication personnel, vendors, suppliers, and leadership to design, develop, and implement solutions that improve safety, productivity, reliability, and efficiency. This is a hands-on engineering role that requires time in both the office and the field, including regular regional travel between the Charlotte and Asheville areas.
This position is ideal for someone with 2–5 years of engineering, drafting, or project experience who is comfortable taking ownership of projects from concept through oversight. Strong recent graduates with solid CAD portfolios may also be considered.
Minimum Qualifications:
· 2–5 years of engineering, drafting, project coordination, or related project experience preferred.
· Strong recent graduates with solid CAD portfolios may be considered on the lower end of the experience range.
· Proficiency in 3D CAD required, specifically AutoCAD Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar 3D modeling software.
· Ability to interpret 2D drawings, blueprints, technical prints, and engineering specifications.
· Ability to develop accurate, buildable drawings based on field measurements and project requirements.
· Comfortable splitting time between field and office work.
· Willingness and ability to travel regionally between the Charlotte and Asheville areas.
· Ability to work independently and take the lead on projects from concept through planning, coordination, and oversight.
· Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication and organizational skills.
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop 2D and 3D engineering models, layouts, fabrication drawings, and installation drawings.
· Design and modify plant systems, including conveyors, crushers, screening systems, chutes, structures, piping systems, and material handling equipment.
· Create drawings and models for plant projects, fabrication shop assignments, and field construction support.
· Translate field conditions, measurements, and project needs into accurate, buildable designs.
· Develop scope of work documents and field installation drawings with dimensions, notes, and construction details.
· Support project development from concept through budgeting, planning, coordination, and oversight.
· Assist with project budgeting, costing, material procurement, and cost tracking.
· Coordinate with fabrication personnel regarding project priorities, schedules, material requirements, and drawing clarification.
· Coordinate with vendors and suppliers on equipment specifications, quotes, design integration, and project needs.
· Conduct site visits to gather field measurements, verify existing conditions, and support construction activities.
· Assist with surveying, drone mapping, GPS layout, and field data collection.
· Support plant construction, installation, and maintenance project activities.
· Work directly with site superintendents, operations teams, shop personnel, vendors, and leadership to achieve project goals.
· Communicate project plans, timelines, and updates to a variety of employees across multiple locations.
· Monitor project progress and provide status updates to leadership.
· Partner with operations teams to identify improvement opportunities related to safety, production, maintenance, reliability, and efficiency.
· Maintain project documentation, drawings, specifications, reports, and engineering records.
· Provide technical support to facilities throughout the organization.
· Produce weekly updates on project activity and active project status.

Essential Functions, Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

· Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
· Able to walk on uneven terrain at active quarry and industrial facilities.
· Able to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated structures.
· Able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
· Able to wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, and steel-toe boots.
· Able to work in industrial environments that may include dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and active production areas.
· Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use a computer for extended periods as needed.
