Position Overview
· Job Title: Correctional Officer I
· Location: Hillsborough County Department of Corrections, New Hampshire
· Starting Salary: $27.00 per Hour (Effective 07/01/2025)
Minimum Qualifications
· Must be at least 18 years old
· Must possess a High School Diploma/GED
· Must demonstrate integrity, good judgment, good communication skills, and a desire to advance.
Application/Selection Process
Candidates must successfully complete the following components:
1. Application Submission and Review

3. Physical Fitness Test
4. Background Check (Personal/Driving/Work Histories)
5. Pre-Employment Testing (Online Questionnaire)
6. Drug Screening
7. Medical Examination
Training Requirements
· Four Weeks of Classroom Training: Covers essential correctional officer skills and knowledge (held Monday - Friday).
· Six Weeks of Field Training: Apply classroom knowledge in real scenarios with a Field Training Officer.
· New Hampshire Association of Counties Corrections Academy: Five weeks of additional training to become a certified County Correctional Officer.
Salary & Benefits
· Vacation: Progressive vacation days based on years of service (starts at 10 days after 1 year).
· Holidays: 8 paid holidays and 4 paid personal days per year.
· Sick Days: 10 paid sick days (prorated in the first year).
· Retirement Plan: Participate in the New Hampshire Group II (Law Enforcement) Retirement System.
· Health Insurance: Options available after 45 days of employment at less than 25% of the premium cost.
· Life Insurance: Coverage of 1x annual salary provided for permanent full-time employees.

Shift Schedule
· Schedule: 4 days on, 2 days off. Must be available for all shifts.
· 1st Shift: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm
· 2nd Shift: 2:30 pm to 11:00 pm
· 3rd Shift: 10:30 pm to 7:00 am
· Schedule: 4 days on, 2 days off. Must be available for all shifts.
· Overtime: Paid out at 1 ½ the staff members hourly rate for anything over 8 hours worked in a day or 40 hours worked in a week.
Job Duties
· Maintain peace and order within the facility.
· Monitor inmate activities and ensure safety.
· Conduct documentation and provide rehabilitation services.
· Enforce policies, rules, and regulations.
Community Involvement
· Staff actively participate in various community and charity programs such as the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
