Full Job Description

Newtown Counseling, an office of Southbury Counseling, is seeking compassionate, energetic, and empathetic applicants seeking part-time or full-time employment as a mental health counselor. Our office is looking for compassionaite, empathetic, and motivated clinicians interested in working with clients across the lifespan and in helping the community. Brookfield Counseling is seeking candidates with experience utilizing evidence-based practices to support individuals, couples, and families. The mental health counselor position is an opportunity to make meaningful impact to the individuals, couples, and families served in the community through counseling, crisis support, and case management/collaboration with collateral providers. The mental health counselor will work within the outpatient and telehealth settings and work to support the clients they serve in meeting their identified goals. The counselor will work with a team of counselors working from multiple disciplines, including a PHMNP-BC, and adhere to counseling and social work code of ethics. The ideal candidate has had experience working in an outpatient setting and/or higher levels of care (residential treatment facility, psychiatric facility, group home, etc.) and has familiarity and an understanding of EHR systems and HIPAA regulations.

Job Duties (Include by not limited to)

Conduct thorough biopsychosocial assessments and clinical documentation utilizing ICD-9 and ICD-10/DSM-V coding systems.
Facilitate individual, family, and couples sessions implementing modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing.
Implement and utilize crisis management techniques and crisis intervention strategies to support clients experiencing acute mental health issues as it occurs.
Deliver specialized counseling services including grief counseling, addiction counseling, and PTSD care (with training opportunities provided for those interested in learning these specialized modalities).
Develop treatment plans as co-constructed with client(s) and aligned with client needs and clinical best practices.
Document patient care activities, including sessions and phone calls, accurately in medical records through EHR while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and insurance standards.
Coordinate and collaborate care with other healthcare providers and support systems (i.e. schools, primary care offices, psychiatrists/medication prescribers).
Participate in telehealth sessions as needed, ensuring effective communication and patient engagement remotely.
Support clients who are neurodivergent and diagnosed with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders through tailored behavioral therapies and social work interventions.

Job Requirements

Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field
Valid licensure or certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) or equivalent credential within the state of CT is required *Providers who are fully licensed are strongly encouraged to apply*
Proven experience in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or behavioral therapy.
Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention, crisis management, and behavior management techniques.
Experience working with children, adolescents, geriatrics, or individuals with disabilities preferred; familiarity with couples and family work is a plus.
Prior experience working within outpatient clinics is preferred. *Applicants with prior experience in residential treatment/psychiatric hospital settings and intensive outpatient programs are encouraged to apply*
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with a diverse client population.
Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, compassion and empathy while maintaining confidentiality.

Benefits:

Full Time- two weeks PTO/1 week sick time, dental, health, vision, life insurance, 401k match. Additionally, training opportunities are provided to employees to learn modalities/interventions that can be utilized in session such as DBT, ERP, and EMDR. These training opportunities are supported with an allotted $1,200 yearly towards professional growth.
Part Time- PTO and sick time are accrued based on the number of clinical hours performed. Additionally, employees are automatically enrolled in a 401k once eligible and provided life insurance at the employer's cost. training opportunities are provided to employees to learn modalities/interventions that can be utilized in session such as DBT, ERP, and EMDR. These training opportunities are supported with an allotted $600 yearly towards professional growth.
