Fireplace Service and Installation Helper
Are you mechanically inclined, dependable, and the kind of person who enjoys figuring out how things work?
Black Swan Hearth & Home is a family owned fireplace, stove, hearth, and outdoor living company serving Connecticut since 1979. We are looking for a hardworking
Service and Installation Helper who wants to learn a skilled trade and build a long term career with our company.
You do not need fireplace industry experience. We will provide hands on training. What we cannot teach is a strong work ethic, a good attitude, common sense, and pride in doing a job properly.
This is not a job where you will stand around waiting to be told what to do. We are looking for someone who pays attention, asks questions, takes initiative, and becomes more capable with every job.
About the Position
You will work alongside our experienced technicians and installers in customers’ homes throughout Connecticut.
Our team installs, services, and maintains gas, wood, pellet, and electric fireplaces, inserts, and stoves. Projects can include everything from routine service and cleaning to venting, framing, fireplace installation, troubleshooting, removal, replacement, and finishing work.
Every day is different. You may spend one day helping install a new fireplace and the next assisting with service calls or learning how to diagnose a technical problem.
The right person will take pride in their work, care about the customer’s home, and want to learn how to complete a job from start to finish.
What You Will Do
- Assist technicians and installers with fireplace, stove, and insert installations.
- Help with service calls, cleanings, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Carry tools, equipment, venting, and fireplace components safely.
- Use hand tools and power tools.
- Assist with framing, venting, removal, replacement, and finishing work.
- Protect customers’ floors, furniture, and homes while work is being completed.
- Keep trucks, tools, and work areas clean and organized.
- Learn manufacturer requirements, installation procedures, safety standards, and building codes.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with customers and coworkers.
- Take direction, ask questions, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills grow.
Who We Are Looking For
- You are dependable and show up on time ready to work.
- You have a strong work ethic and are willing to put in a full day.
- You are mechanically inclined and enjoy solving problems.
- You pay attention to details and care about doing things correctly.
- You take initiative instead of waiting for someone to tell you every next step.
- You are willing to learn, accept feedback, and improve.
- You stay calm when a job becomes difficult or does not go exactly as planned.
- You work well with a team and are willing to help wherever needed.
- You respect customers, their homes, and their property.
- You take care of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- You are comfortable working indoors, outdoors, on ladders, and on roofs.
- Must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including lifting and carrying heavy equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Experience in construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, roofing, appliance repair, automotive repair, or another mechanical trade is helpful, but not required.
This Position Is a Good Fit for Someone Who
- Wants to learn a skilled trade rather than work another temporary job.
- Enjoys working with their hands and seeing the finished result of their work.
- Likes learning how different systems operate.
- Can think through a problem instead of immediately giving up.
- Wants to become someone the team can depend on.
- Takes satisfaction in completing difficult jobs properly.
Why You Will Enjoy Working Here
- Hands on training from experienced technicians and installers.
- The opportunity to learn gas, wood, pellet, and electric hearth systems.
- A clear path to grow from helper to installer or service technician.
- Ongoing manufacturer and technical training.
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience and ability.
- Opportunities for overtime and performance based bonuses.
- A small team where hard work, improvement, and initiative are noticed.
You do not need to know everything on your first day. You do need to be dependable, willing to learn, and determined to become great at what you do.
This position is ideal for someone who wants a long term career, takes pride in working with their hands, and wants to become a highly skilled technician or installer.
