About Us: We are a national nonprofit organization that trains, supports, and sustains family child care providers. All Our Kin serves nearly 1,100 family child care providers, who in turn educate and care for over 6,000 children from chronically under-resourced communities in Connecticut and New York City. In addition to our direct service program, we train and advise partner organizations across the country to strengthen their engagement and practice with family child care providers.
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week)
The main goal of this role is to support the Early Head Start team and program in its health systems and procedures, guide the day-to-day health & safety operations of the program, to support the health and safety of enrolled children, families, and staff, and to ensure the program meets the Head Start Program Performance Standards related to health and safety practices.
Supporting a healthy and safe environment for children, families, and staff

Developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety policies informed by both current research and program data.

Reducing the incidence of illness due to infectious disease transmission.

Adapting the environment to meet the health and developmental needs of all children including those with special needs.

Hiring, supervising and coordinating with the Nutrition Consultant to provide nutrition-related support to EHS staff, childcare educators and families.
-
Promoting nutritious meals and snacks.
-
Adopting safe medication administration policies.
-
Promoting mental health strategies.
-
Sharing health information and community health resources with children, families and staff.
-
Ensuring EHS educators are up-to-date on the health and safety regulations outlined in the HSPPS.
-
Providing required health and safety trainings to all EHS staff and educators within 90 days of hire, on an annual basis, and additionally as needed.

Partnering with EHS educators and staff to ensure facilities meet specific health and safety standards outlined in the HSPPS and in Caring for Our Children, ensuring a clean and safe environment for children and reducing injuries due to environmental hazards.

Ensuring comprehensive emergency preparedness plans are in place to respond to various emergencies and disasters and providing annual training on emergency preparedness procedures.
Promoting child and family health and development
-
Conducting vision and hearing screenings for all enrolled children within 45 days of enrollment and providing referrals and follow-up for any screening concerns.

Ensuring that all children have an identified primary care provider and dental home and are enrolled in an insurance plan, and promoting other family members’ access to health services.

Ensuring that all children receive comprehensive and timely well-child care including Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment services.

Identifying children with chronic illnesses and special needs and developing a plan of care with parents and staff.

Participating in referral and individual family service plans (IFSP) processes as needed.

Coordinating with enrolled families and their medical/dental homes to obtain health records for the children.

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date health and oral health records for each child on the COPA database system, including information about screenings, immunizations, and any health concerns.

Coordinating and communicating health information and services across settings (home, child care, primary care, and other health/intervention services) to promote continuity of care.

Supporting positive parenting skills and information sharing.

Attending multidisciplinary team meetings and collaborating with other child care consultants, such as education, mental health, nutrition, dental, and social service, as well as the other members of the AOK-EHS team.

Attending Health and Mental Health Services Advisory meetings, WIC/HS Partnership meetings, and other health-related meetings in the community, as requested by EHS Manager and as schedule allows.

Planning quarterly health-related sessions for EHS team learning days, and additional learning engagements for team and family child care educators, as needed.

Ensuring available opportunities for team to complete all required health-related trainings, as outlined by the HSPPS, including Med Admin, Epi-Pen, First Aid/CPR, and Mandated Reporter trainings.

Leading and participating in health components of internal and federal monitoring visits.
Providing additional health-related administrative leadership and support by:

Ensuring all EHS FCC educators’ required paperwork is in compliance, up-to-date and well organized in office files and digitally (on COPA) - PE, TB, background checks, contracts, liability insurance, First Aid, Med Admin, etc.

Reviewing, tracking, and uploading all (Nurse/Health Consultant) program visit reports to the Google Drive on a monthly basis.

Making and tracking health-related program purchases; planning and managing health and inclusion portions of the EHS budgets, with input from team and EHS Manager.

Translating health-related program materials from Spanish to English and vice versa, as needed.

Organizing health & safety EHS files and folders on Google Drive.

Supporting the recruitment and onboarding process for new EHS staff members and FCC educators by giving input into job descriptions, supporting interview and onboarding schedules for applicants and new hires, and creating health-related onboarding plans and support, in coordination with the EHS team and EHS Manager.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field is required by Head Start Program Performance Standards

Experience: 3-5 years health services experience preferred
