Precision Combustion, Inc. (PCI) is seeking a skilled, proactive and experienced Patent Agent to join our team part-time, developing patents for our mission-driven research in clean energy and environmental fields. In this role, you’ll work closely with our PhD researchers and take full ownership of the patent process—from drafting to award—in a collaborative, hands-on environment. You’ll be supported by an internal part-time paralegal and a part-time contracted patent attorney, as well as have access to an external Intellectual Property firm.
We’re looking for someone comfortable working with highly technical subject matter, ideally in areas such as sorbency (carbon capture), electrochemistry (solid oxide fuel cells), or catalysis (chemical processing or emissions mitigation). While close technical background is a plus, we value rigorous thinking, curiosity and the proven ability to quickly learn new concepts just as highly. Look up our patents for a sense of the areas in which we develop IP.
This part-time position offers significant scheduling flexibility along with a hybrid work arrangement that includes weekly on-site collaboration.
Roles and Responsibilites:
- Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and PCT patent applications related to PCI’s cutting-edge technologies.
- Work closely with engineers and scientists to understand and document inventions.
- Manage and maintain the patent portfolio, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Coordinate with affiliated legal resources (outside counsel and in-house Paralegal) and grow internal patent knowledge.
- Collaborate with foreign attorneys on patent applications filed and prosecuted in foreign countries.
- Provide guidance on best practices for intellectual property protection and strategy.
