Location: Meriden, CT

Schedule: Monday–Friday
Compensation: $17.00–$29.00 per hour (based on role and experience)

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is currently hiring for multiple Mortgage Loss Mitigation opportunities in Meriden, CT. These positions support critical mortgage servicing and default management functions and offer excellent opportunities for professionals looking to build or expand their careers within mortgage servicing, underwriting, loan operations, and loss mitigation.

We are seeking candidates for the following opportunities:

Mortgage Lending Closing Specialist
Default Fulfillment Underwriter

Candidates with experience in mortgage servicing, loan operations, loss mitigation, underwriting, collections, foreclosure alternatives, or mortgage documentation are encouraged to apply.

Opportunity #1: Mortgage Lending Closing Specialist

Pay Range: $17.00–$24.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Mortgage Lending Closing Specialist is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and coordinating documentation required to complete approved mortgage mitigation transactions in accordance with investor guidelines and internal policies. This role plays a key part in ensuring loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu transactions are processed accurately and completed on time.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare closing documentation for loan modifications, deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure, and short sale transactions.
Review title reports, loan documents, and supporting records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Coordinate document recording activities with third-party vendors and recording offices.
Maintain tracking reports for outstanding documentation and follow up as needed.
Identify and resolve title, documentation, and closing deficiencies.
Verify short sale closing costs for compliance with investor requirements.
Support mitigation processors and underwriters with documentation collection and imaging.
Maintain accurate records and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in mortgage servicing, loan operations, banking, real estate, or document processing.
Knowledge of mortgage loan documentation and title requirements.
Experience with loss mitigation, default servicing, loan modifications, or foreclosure-related processes.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
Experience with MSP servicing systems is a plus.

Opportunity #2: Default Fulfillment Underwriter

Pay Range: $24.00–$29.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Default Fulfillment Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing borrower requests for loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu. This role validates borrower financial information, performs underwriting analysis, and supports loss mitigation decision-making while ensuring compliance with regulatory and investor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyze borrower requests for loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu.
Audit borrower packages to ensure all required documentation has been submitted.
Review borrower financial information, including paystubs, tax returns, bank statements, and supporting documentation.
Validate borrower income, assets, liabilities, and credit information.
Perform front-end and back-end Debt-to-Income (DTI) calculations.
Calculate modified loan payment structures and prepare underwriting findings.
Collaborate with processors, mitigation coordinators, and servicing teams to resolve documentation deficiencies.
Support preparation and delivery of final modification agreements.
Complete required investor and program reporting.
Ensure compliance with CFPB regulations, investor guidelines, and servicing requirements.
Recommend approval or denial of available workout options based on eligibility criteria.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of mortgage underwriting, collections, loss mitigation, or related mortgage industry experience preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of mortgage servicing experience preferred.
Strong understanding of mortgage loan modification programs and servicing practices.
Experience reviewing financial documentation, tax returns, income calculations, and credit reports.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mortgage servicing systems.
Experience with MSP systems is a plus.
