Full Job Description

Position Title: Family Violence Victim Advocate Program’s Court Services Case Manager

Status: Full Time; Non-Exempt; Hourly

Schedule: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

Reports To: Director of Advocacy Programs

Job Summary: The primary role of the Family Violence Victim Advocate Program’s Case Manager is to provide ongoing services to victims referred by the Family Violence Victim Advocates in the criminal court. The Case Manager will provide support and advocacy for clients, coordinates with various service providers, and develop individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs. The Case Manager will work not only within the legal system but also within the community at large to enhance both systems’ response to the needs of victims. This position is to be conducted while empowering victims with respect to their safety and their right to self-determination.

General Duties

· Apply knowledge about the services and programs of Interval House to accomplish the duties of the position.

Follow all: agency practices; policies and procedures as written in the IH Employee, Policy, and Personnel Handbooks; and other directives as issued by the President & CEO
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

· Participate in IH Fundraising events.

Distribute and collect client surveys for each client receiving in person services, if feasible, also complete a client survey for each client receiving phone services
Mandatory Attendance

v Staff meetings

v Meet monthly or as requested with supervisor.

v Other internal or external meetings as requested by supervisor.

Attend training sessions, workshops, and conferences as requested or approved by supervisor.

· Clean and maintain office -vacuum, dust, empty trash.

· Participate in routine maintenance tasks as needed or directed.

· Attend six hours of additional training per year to sustain Domestic Violence Counselor Certificate

Train new employees and volunteers as needed.

Job Responsibilities

Direct Services: Case Management Duties

Provide information about the criminal court process.
Provide information about protective orders and civil retraining orders.
Provide telephone and/or person counseling.
Conduct risk assessments that will assist in developing and implement safety plans.
Assist in registration process with CT SAVIN/DOC Victim Notification Programs
Provide linkage to the Civil and Adult Advocate
Complete basic need assessment and provide applicable case management services.
Provide referrals to appropriate agencies for collateral services.
Provide referrals to domestic violence programs for shelter, counseling, and other support services.
Provide referrals for services for children and dependents of the victim.
Providing information and assistance with applying for criminal injuries compensation
Provide information regarding prosecution, sanctions, offenders programs, and probation.

· Coordinate with service providers to ensure comprehensive care.

· Advocate for clients' needs and rights

· Maintain detailed and accurate case records.

· Educate clients and families about available resources.

· Assist clients in accessing community resources and services.

· Facilitate communication between clients and service providers.

· Conduct regular follow-up meetings with clients.

· Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, safety plans, and services.

· Provide crisis intervention when necessary.

· Monitor client progress and adjust safety plans as needed.

Advocacy Services:

Initiate collaborative relationships with appropriate court-related personnel including, but not limited to, judges, prosecutors, probation officers, bail commissioners, and family violence educations program.
Maintain client confidentiality subject to the FVVA’s agency’s confidentiality policies and the provisions of CGS 52-146k privileged communications between battered women’s counselors and victims of domestic violence.
Obtain and document victim’s permission to release information to others outside Interval House
Assist appropriate court personnel in recognizing the needs and choices identified by victims.
Maintain a system for referrals to CCADV domestic violence programs.
Develop and maintain a system for referrals to services in the community.
Provide advocacy on behalf of victims when appropriate within the community.

Documentation:

Keep accurate service records.
Develop and maintain a data collection system to record information on client statistics and the services provided.
Enter all contact with clients and services provided into our Empower database daily.
Complete monthly summaries of all speaking and training sessions, contact with media, and participation in resources fairs and enter it into our Empower Data Base.
Submit timesheets per period by deadline using IH’s ADP process.
Maintain records of statistics for three years.

Qualifications

The required education level is a bachelor’s degree; Substitution of appropriate college training, years of experience, and intern/volunteer service are allowed.
Must be committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and empowering battered women and other victims of domestic violence.
Must be mature, responsible, and able to work autonomously.
Must be able to work effectively with both traditional and non-traditional systems.
Must be sensitive to victims of domestic violence.
Must have comprehensive working knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence as well as the impact of trauma, and cultures.
Must have comprehensive working knowledge of Safety Planning/Victim Defined Advocacy as it relates to domestic violence victims and the development of a plan for their safety and the preservation of their rights to self-determination.
Must have comprehensive working knowledge of the court system, both civil and criminal, as it relates to domestic violence issues and laws affecting victims, and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge to individual cases.
Must have the ability to work effectively in collaboration with court personnel.
Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to gather information from and assist a diversity of victims.
Must have the ability to intergrade and manage large amounts of information and communicate this information appropriately and effectively.
Must have the ability to maintain service records and complete accurately.
Must have knowledge of community and state resources.
Must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to drive independently and frequently.

· Must be able to carry 20-30 lbs., bend, and stretch.

Willing to obtain certification as a Domestic Violence Counselor under CGS 52- l 46K, which is required upon successful completion of IH’s training program.
Must have a current driver’s license.
