Job Summary
We are seeking a Vineyard Manager to oversee the daily operation and maintenance of our vineyard. This is a hands-on management position responsible for supervising a crew of 10+ employees, planning and assigning vineyard work, operating agricultural machinery, managing pesticide applications, and ensuring vineyard operations are completed safely and efficiently.
The Vineyard Manager will be responsible for organizing daily and seasonal activities while actively participating in vineyard work. The ideal candidate will have strong agricultural experience, leadership ability, and the ability to independently prioritize work based on vineyard conditions, weather, and seasonal needs.
Responsibilities
● Manage and supervise a vineyard crew of 10+ employees
● Plan daily, weekly, and seasonal vineyard work
● Assign tasks and oversee employee productivity and work quality
● Train employees in vineyard procedures, equipment operation, and safe work practices
● Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials for vineyard operations
● Operate tractors, forklifts, mowers, sprayers, and other agricultural machinery
● Operate and adjust tractor-mounted and PTO-driven vineyard implements
● Perform and oversee pruning, tying, shoot thinning, suckering, canopy management, hedging, leaf removal, and crop thinning
● Coordinate weed and vegetation management
● Maintain and repair vineyard trellis systems
● Prepare vineyard blocks and employees for harvest
● Supervise and participate in harvesting operations
● Monitor vines for insects, diseases, weeds, nutrient issues, and other crop-health concerns
● Plan and perform pesticide, fungicide, and herbicide applications
● Mix and load agricultural chemicals according to pesticide labels and regulations
● Operate vineyard sprayers
● Maintain pesticide application records and chemical inventories
● Ensure compliance with pesticide PPE, restricted-entry intervals, and worker-safety requirements
● Perform routine equipment inspections
● Identify mechanical problems and coordinate equipment repairs when necessary
● Maintain vineyard tools, machinery, and work areas
● Monitor inventory and communicate needs for chemicals, fertilizers, equipment parts, and vineyard supplies
● Adjust work schedules and priorities based on weather, pest pressure, crop development, equipment availability, and vineyard conditions
● Communicate vineyard conditions, employee needs, equipment issues, and work progress to ownership or management
● Ensure employees follow workplace, equipment, and agricultural safety procedures
● Maintain a clean and organized work environment and equipment
● Schedule employees during seasonal needs (Friday night parkers, weekend cleanup, harvest, etc)
Required Qualifications
● Previous vineyard, orchard, farm, or agricultural experience
● Experience supervising and directing agricultural employees
● Ability to manage a crew of 10+ employees
● Experience operating tractors and agricultural equipment
● Experience operating forklifts and material-handling equipment
● Experience with pesticide application and agricultural sprayers
● Ability to safely mix, load, and apply agricultural chemicals
● Knowledge of basic agricultural practices and seasonal operations
● Ability to identify common crop, pest, disease, and weed problems
● Strong organizational and time-management skills
● Ability to independently plan and prioritize work
● Valid driver’s license
● Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Ability to work additional hours during critical vineyard periods
● Ability to use basic computer programs (Email, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
● Previous vineyard management or crew-lead experience
● Pesticide applicator license or certification
● Forklift certification
● Experience with pesticide sprayer calibration
● Experience troubleshooting and maintaining tractors and agricultural equipment
● Knowledge of grapevine growth, disease management, canopy management, and harvest operations
Physical Requirements
● Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in hot, cold, wet, and variable weather conditions
● Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
● Ability to bend, climb, reach, and perform repetitive agricultural tasks
● Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
● Ability to safely operate tractors, forklifts, and other agricultural machinery
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED - SALARY BASED UPON EXPERIENCE.
Pay: $25.79 - $28.00 per hour
