The Congregation of Divine Providence is seeking a highly experienced Senior HVAC & Facilities Maintenance Technician to support the safety, comfort, and daily operation of our campus. This position is ideal for a skilled HVAC professional who also has strong general maintenance experience and a desire to work in a respectful, mission-focused environment.
This is not an entry-level maintenance position. We are looking for someone with strong commercial HVAC knowledge, sound troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support both HVAC needs and general campus maintenance. The ideal candidate will be dependable, professional, safety-minded, and able to work independently while treating Sisters, staff, visitors, vendors, and coworkers with dignity and respect.
This position will support the Maintenance Department by performing HVAC preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, general maintenance duties, vendor coordination, work orders, and emergency maintenance response as needed.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC & Mechanical Systems
- Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and perform repairs on HVAC systems and related equipment within the employee’s license, certification, training, and scope of responsibility
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, including filter changes, belt inspections/replacements, thermostat checks, drain line checks, coil cleaning support, and general system inspections
- Respond to heating, cooling, airflow, thermostat, and comfort concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Identify HVAC issues early and communicate needed repairs, risks, or vendor needs to the supervisor
- Determine what HVAC work can be safely handled in-house and what should be referred to an outside licensed vendor
- Assist with seasonal HVAC preparation, including summer cooling and winter heating readiness
- Maintain records of HVAC inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment concerns, and vendor service
- Review HVAC vendor recommendations, service reports, and repair needs when requested
- Help reduce unnecessary outside service calls when appropriate, while ensuring work is completed safely and properly
General Facilities Maintenance
- Complete assigned work orders in a timely, safe, and professional manner
- Perform scheduled and emergency repairs as directed
- Perform minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, cover plates, receptacles, plugs, pull chains, lenses, and similar items within the scope of the position
- Perform minor plumbing work such as addressing leaks, unclogging commodes or drains, replacing washers, repairing basic fixtures, and checking traps
- Perform minor carpentry repairs, including door hardware, hinges, locks, closures, ceiling tiles, trim, cove base, drawers, cabinets, and similar repairs
- Perform minor painting, patching, plastering, wall repair, tile repair, and touch-up work as needed
- Perform general campus repairs such as hanging pictures, replacing soap or tissue holders, repairing curtain tracks, oiling hinges, repairing small fixtures, and addressing routine maintenance concerns
- Clean supply and exhaust diffusers and assist with filter changes and routine building maintenance tasks
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and campus areas to identify safety concerns, needed repairs, or preventive maintenance needs
- Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment safely and appropriately
- Maintain tools, supplies, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
Campus & Department Support
- Assist with moving, setting up, or taking down furniture, equipment, and supplies for campus needs, meetings, Masses, events, or special projects
- Assist with campus safety needs during weather events, power outages, equipment failures, leaks, or other urgent situations
- Support maintenance needs across assigned campus buildings and areas
- Respond to urgent maintenance concerns and emergency repair needs as assigned
- Assist with coordinating HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other facility vendors as assigned
- Provide vendors with access to appropriate areas and communicate known maintenance concerns clearly
- Assist with prioritizing work orders and identifying urgent maintenance concerns
- May provide technical guidance or support to other maintenance staff, contractors, or vendors as assigned
- May assist with department needs in the absence of the Maintenance Manager
- Work under the direction of the Maintenance Manager / Director of Physical Facilities

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of commercial HVAC experience required
- Active Texas HVAC license or applicable Texas HVAC credential required
- EPA Section 608 Certification required
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, system operation, and repair practices required
- General maintenance experience required, including the ability to assist with minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, repairs, and building maintenance
- Ability to determine what work can be safely handled in-house and what should be referred to an outside licensed vendor
- Ability to read and understand work orders, equipment manuals, labels, safety instructions, and basic technical information
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Must be dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time effectively
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to respond calmly and appropriately during urgent or emergency maintenance situations
- Must have a current valid Texas driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Universal EPA Section 608 Certification strongly preferred
- Trade school, technical school, or formal HVAC training preferred
- Experience working in a campus, healthcare, senior living, school, church, hospitality, or similar facility environment preferred
- Experience supporting older buildings, multiple buildings, or complex facility systems preferred
- Experience coordinating with outside vendors and reviewing service recommendations preferred
- Experience serving as a lead technician, senior technician, supervisor, or department support person preferred
- Additional training or certification in electrical, plumbing, building maintenance, safety, or facilities management preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, push, pull, twist, and sit as needed throughout the workday
- Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
- Ability to perform repetitive motions related to repairs, lifting, carrying, reaching, and equipment use
- Ability to work in areas that may require climbing, bending, kneeling, or working overhead
- Ability to move throughout the campus and respond to urgent maintenance needs as needed
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- May work in mechanical rooms, equipment areas, rooftops, confined spaces, wet areas, and other maintenance environments
- May be exposed to dust, odors, loud noise, chemicals, mechanical equipment, and varying temperatures
- May be exposed to cuts, bruises, burns, heat, cold, or other maintenance-related hazards
- Must wear required protective clothing or safety equipment when needed
- May be subject to call-back or emergency response during urgent facility conditions
