Job Summary/Scope
The Hospital Clinical Coordinator’s (HCC) primary function is dedicated to maximizing the donor gift, organ allocation, and fostering a learning atmosphere through education and communication of donation information. Organ recovery services are critical to the mission of SLL. The responsibilities and duties of the HCC include assessing potential organ donors and maximizing the donor’s gift through donor management techniques. Additionally, understanding the flow of decision-making within the institution relates to donor activity, and fostering a learning and educational atmosphere is key. HCC requires proficient computer skills.
Essential Functions
1. Respond to referrals, rounding, case activity, etc. at designated or directed location(s).
2. Maintain high visibility within the hospital(s) by conducting rounds in designated areas.
3. Responsible for clear communication with hospital staff and physicians so that they have a clear understanding of the needs of the potential donor, the donor family, and SLL.
4. In collaboration with transplant surgeons and professionals, the HCC shall conduct, monitor, and appropriately implement organ donor management protocols to ensure optimal organ function.
a. Utilizes clinical knowledge and judgment to administer appropriate interventions.
5. Respond appropriately to potential donor referrals and conduct a comprehensive, accurate assessment of the medical status of potential organ/tissue donors according to SLL and USPHS guidelines.
6. Assist hospital staff to maximize organ, tissue, and eye donation through education about Best Practices, Clinical Triggers, etc.
7. Adhere to all SLL SOPs to ensure compliance with UNOS and CMS.
8. Perform initial assessment of potential donor and communicate appropriate information to the Administrator-on-Call, Director of Organ Recovery, and/or Medical Director.
9. Manage and facilitate ongoing communication with the health care team during the evaluation of referred potential organ donors.
10. Work in collaboration with SLL staff and hospital personnel during referral and case activity to ensure the environment is optimum for maximizing donation potential.
11. Coordinate organ recovery with hospital staff, transplant teams, transplant support personnel and transplant surgeons. Examples include: scheduling, transportation, interventions and testing.
12. Complete all forms associated with an authorized donor. Document all required UNOS data regarding organ donor demographics, donor management, medical/social history, organ allocation, surgical recovery/preservation, and accurately notates organ anatomy.
13. Collaborate with hospital in following policies: brain death declaration, Donation after Circulatory Determination of Death (DCD) or transfer for a potential DCD. Facilitates and/or attends After- Action Review meetings with key hospital personnel.
Secondary Functions
1. Interact with potential donor families in a manner that respects human dignity and shows reverence for life.
2. Facilitate and participate in after-action reviews for local donor cases.
3. Obtain and review hospital death records and reports information to appropriate SLL staff and hospital staff.
4. Relied on as an expert resource within the donor hospital for organ donation.
5. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key donor hospital staff.
6. As needed, maintain high visibility within the hospital by conducting rounds in designated areas.

1. Maintain regular and punctual attendance at assigned work location.
a. Accurately document timekeeping records.
2. Complete and maintain appropriate documentation in a timely and thorough manner, including activities. Examples include training documentation, mileage, expenses, electronic schedule of SLL events, and other forms.
a. Proofread work for accuracy and completeness.

7. Foster effective relationships with client representatives.
8. With the approval of the division head, serve on national committees.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Potential Risk Factors:
1. Risk Exposure to Blood/Body Fluids: While performing some essential functions of your position, you may be exposed to blood or body fluids. Established procedures identify the appropriate personal protective measures that you should use when performing essential functions of your position. The safety program will provide you with the appropriate procedures and guidelines in which you should perform the essential duties of your job. 3. Competency Evaluation: Competency evaluations are required for this position. Your supervisor will notify you when your evaluation is to be conducted.
4. Training: You may need additional training to better understand the performance requirements of your essential job functions. Training classes are available and can be requested and/or assigned. Your attendance at such classes is mandatory.
Work Environment
1. Works in various locations, including normal office environment, operating room, hospital environment, and other locations as essential and secondary functions necessitate.
2. Required to carry a cellular telephone for business purposes.
3. Frequent travel required by personal vehicle to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
4. May require travel by commercial or chartered aircraft.
5. Non-smoking office.
Work Hours
SLL is a 24/7 operation and will require this position to work various shifts. Primarily this position will work 40 hours a week M-F.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Licensed respiratory therapist, registered nurse, BSN preferred with at least one-year critical care/ER experience is preferred.
- 3 years’ experience working as an Organ Procurement Coordinator or a similar position at another Organ Procurement Organization may substitute for education or experience.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and proof of automobile insurance.
- Must maintain required vaccination and/or health screenings to minimize the potential for disease transmission.
- Consistent demonstration of attention to detail, precision, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- 6. Possess strong prioritization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks.
- 7. Ability to utilize general office equipment, software, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

This position is responsible for acquiring and managing confidential records and ensuring that information is protected according to the recognized standards, regulations, and standards for maintaining patient records.
Pay: $75,650.00 - $93,865.00 per year
