Job Title: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) – Residential Program
Location: Cookeville, TN
Job Type: Full-Time, 24/7 Residential Campus (2 Positions Available)

Role Overview
The Volunteer Behavioral Health Care System (VBHCS) is seeking two Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) for the Cookeville residential campus. These positions operate within a 24/7 integrated treatment team to provide engagement, support, and professional coordination in a structured recovery environment. The CPRS uses their lived experience in recovery to model resilience and encourage clients through positive atmosphere and evidence-based support.

Primary Responsibilities

Mentorship & Support: Build therapeutic alliances and model effective coping techniques and recovery resilience. Assist clients in articulating personal recovery goals and developing individualized wellness plans.
Facilitation: Lead psychoeducational groups focused on addiction, relapse prevention, and managing triggers. Teach problem-solving techniques and how to combat negative self-talk.
Safety & Crisis Support: Employ de-escalation techniques and follow established crisis response plans. Assist professional staff with routine safety protocols and documentation.
Daily Operations: Support clients with activities of daily living and social skills building. Provide detailed shift reports and professional documentation of all interactions.
Post-Discharge Outreach: Conduct follow-up contact for discharged clients to ensure plan efficacy and assist with alternatives if necessary.

Requirements

Certification: Must possess an active Peer Recovery Specialist certification through the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS).
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or college experience preferred.
Experience: 1 year of experience working with adults in alcohol/drug treatment or co-occurring mental health settings is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Compliance: Must pass a criminal background investigation. Requires a valid Tennessee Driver’s License with F Endorsement, a good driving record, and personal automobile insurance.
Professionalism: Ability to maintain strict professional boundaries, including the protection of personal and staff identifying information.

Schedule
Flexibility to work various 12-hour shifts within a 24/7 residential environment is preferred.

Pay: $18.75 per hour
