Job Description
In this high-impact role, your primary duty will be to lead a unique inter-agency collaboration as a Conservation Easement Planner, bridging the gap between working agricultural lands and wildlife habitat. You will meet with landowners to discuss conservation programs and help them determine which programs suit their needs, including NRCS programs, USFWS programs, conservation easements, and other conservation programs. You will help landowners get started on the process of developing and applying for conservation programs to protect critical wildlife habitat, and use your biological background to identify high-quality wildlife areas on the landscape and match landowners' needs to specific conservation programs, like restoring waterways, wetland restoration, land preservation, etc.
Additionally, you will also assist waterfowl biologists at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Waterfowl Management Area biologists on wetland management duties and projects. You will get hands-on waterfowl management experience and experience the sights and natural wonders of the Great Salt Lake wetlands.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities and day to day responsibilities of this position:

Providing technical assistance to landowners in developing and revising conservation plans.

Coordination and/or acting as a liaison between agency or work unit and other agencies, work units, and organizations to implement best practices and stewardship measures to improve conservation efficiency and resource effectiveness.

Writing and reviewing grants, contracts, agreements, for conservation programs.
-
Coordinating with other agencies, local governments, and interested groups by attending meetings, making presentations, and by providing technical assistance.

Analyzing, summarizing, and reviewing data; reports findings, interpreting results and making recommendations.

Leading the work of others and facilitating work groups.

Providing input on performance plans and evaluations.

Providing technical assistance at conservation improvement sites.

Assisting with wetland management activities.
Qualifications
Minimum or "day-one" qualifications:
-
Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree in wildlife/range management/botany/biology or a closely related field. Or directly related work experience equivalent.

They must have an understanding of the principles, theories and practices of wildlife ecology.
- Sound understanding of botany and range management, and knowledge of habitat restoration techniques is a must.

Applicants should have experience and understanding of common agricultural practices.
- Applicants should also have experience working with various partners and organizations, and an understanding of the taxonomy, physiology, ecology, habitat requirements, and principles of wildlife management.
Preferred or trainable/on-the-job qualifications:
-
Best qualified individuals for this job will have comprehensive knowledge and skills related to Agronomy, Soil Science, Botany, Horticulture, Agricultural and other natural resource management skills and abilities.
- Preference will also be given to applicants with a masters degree in the field of natural resources.

The work may require overnight travel. Work may require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g. working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc. Incumbents spend approximately 50% of their time in the field. Valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA 53-3-202(1)(a).granted the privilege to operate a motor vehicle by being licensed as a driver by the division under this chapter. Travel to conservation project locations is required. The projects are located in rural areas and no public transportation is available.
