Position Information
The Corpus Christi Area Office is seeking a Transportation Specialist who enjoys working on a broad range of transportation projects including roadway rehabilitation, bridge construction, roadway construction and preventative maintenance. The candidate will also aid in the development of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E). This position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with licensed engineers, engineering assistants, construction inspectors, and other area office staff to deliver high-quality transportation projects.
Annual Salary Ranges:
Transportation Specialist I (B19) - $48,244-$76,028
Transportation Specialist II (B20) - $51,158- $81,351
Transportation Specialist III (B21) - $54,278- $87,046
Transportation Specialist IV (B22)- $57,614- $93,138
This position is for one (1) Transportation Specialist I, II, III, or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.
Minimum Salary: 48,244.00
Maximum Salary: 93,138.00

Position Description
Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving design, building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Assists with project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.

Coordinates compilation of complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.

Coordinates design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.

Coordinates with staff and area engineers regarding construction operations as they relate to contract administration, programming, planning, design, right-of-way and maintenance operations.

Develops site layouts utilizing engineering workstations and software.

Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, and regulations; and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Evaluates and analyzes design issues.

Monitors the design and execution of state-funded rehabilitation and preventive maintenance projects.

Researches and evaluates data, interprets and analyzes results, prepares reports and recommends solutions to problems.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Coordinates engineering field staff activities and provides technical assistance in resolving construction problems.

Assists in overseeing design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.

Assists in overseeing project design involving design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.

Assists in overseeing complex design work among TxDOT entities, consultants and contractors.

Coordinates complex traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projects including signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices.

Performs complex field reviews of construction projects to assist area engineers and project engineers in resolution of construction problems.
Minimum Qualifications:Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Transportation Specialist I: 2 years*
Transportation Specialist II: 4 years*
Transportation Specialist III & IV: 5 years*
Experience in transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection( Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications:-
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
