ESS Paraprofessional/Classroom Assistant

Position Summary:
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with ESS and General Education teachers to provide instructional and enrichment assistance to ESS students in large and small groups
- Supervises students in various school settings and situations, including classrooms, lunchroom, playground, bus lines, field trips, etc.
- Provides clerical support, including taking attendance, monitoring progress towards goals, paper grading, updating student data folders, typing, and filing office support activities, etc.
- Assists in the maintenance of students’ records, such as grade records, diagnostic and achievement test scores, and others.
- Provides general assistance to students in non-instructional situations.
- May administer minor first aid in the absence of other personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Some additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Keep records on attendance, accidents and incidents
- Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Ensure the safety of students at all times
- Consult with Principal on responsibilities during the teacher’s absence
Candidate Profile
Education, Certification, and Experience:
- High School Diploma and/or GED (Required)
- Substitute Authorization through CDE (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
- Experience working with students with academic struggles and minor behavior struggles (Preferred)
- 3 years Experience in Educational Setting (Preferred)

- Behavior Support & Classroom Management: Uses proactive, positive behavior strategies to support student engagement and safety. Maintains calm, consistent responses in challenging situations.
- Collaboration & Teaming: Works effectively with ESS staff, general education teachers, and administration. Communicates clearly, accepts feedback, and contributes to a cohesive instructional team.
- Observation & Data Awareness: Accurately observes and documents student progress, behaviors, and interventions. Maintains organized records that support instructional decisions and compliance.
- Communication Skills: Demonstrates clear, professional communication with staff and students. Ability to give and follow directions, ask clarifying questions, and support a respectful school culture.
- Organization & Reliability: Manages time, materials, and responsibilities efficiently. Follows through on tasks, maintains consistency, and supports smooth classroom operations.
- Safety Awareness & Supervision: Maintains vigilance in all environments (classroom, playground, transitions). Understands and follows safety protocols and responds appropriately to incidents.
- Basic Academic Support Skills: Provides support in foundational literacy and math skills appropriate for K–8 learners, reinforcing teacher-led instruction.
- Technology & Clerical Competence: Uses basic educational technology and office tools (e.g., data entry, document preparation, attendance tracking) with accuracy and efficiency.
- Professionalism & Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA and school policies. Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and ethical conduct.
- Growth Mindset & Initiative: Demonstrates willingness to learn, seek feedback, and grow professionally. Takes initiative to support students and staff without constant direction.
Essential Physical Demands:
- While performing the physical duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to run a short distance, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.

Pay: $25,800.00 - $33,300.00 per year
