Are you passionate about education, community engagement, and the power of public media to inspire learning? WSKG is seeking a collaborative and organized Education Outreach Coordinator to help expand the reach of PBS LearningMedia and PBS KIDS resources throughout Tompkins County. In this part-time role, you'll support educational programs, community events, and content development that empower educators, engage families, and enrich learning opportunities for children and communities across the WSKG service area.
Primary Function:
This position provides administrative and project support for all PBS LearningMedia, PBS KIDS, and PBS content initiatives by providing content, resources, and services to support teaching and learning for educators, students, parents, and learners of all ages in our community, with special focus on PreK–12 and community engagement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support planning, promotion, and presentation of educator workshops and/or outreach events related to PBS LearningMedia instructional resources.
- Support Education Services communications efforts with WSKG Education submissions to the bi-monthly e-newsletter, department webpage, and social media accounts.
- Contribute to project reporting, grant and proposal writing efforts as assigned.
- Support Education Services staff collaboration/coordination with internal departments and external partners to plan and implement grant-funded projects and meet project deliverables.
- Support for project implementation, including administration, development and execution of required project deliverables.
- Conduct outreach at libraries, schools, and daycares across the WSKG viewing area, featuring engaging PBS KIDS programming and PBS LearningMedia resources.
- Support the Director of Education with the coordination of the Trunk or Treat and Winter events, including managing community partner involvement, securing a character appearance, and overseeing event planning
- Play an active role in planning and coordinating the Student Writing Challenge and Be My Neighbor Day, working closely with staff and community partners to ensure successful events.
- Support Director of Education in development of digital instructional PreK-12 media resources for distribution on PBS LearningMedia:
- Collaborate with curriculum experts on writing and editing of content.
- Collaborate with production staff as well as independent producers on editing and packaging media content.
- Contribute to drafting and design of resources, including print pieces as needed.
- Publish resources in the PBS LM Content Management System (CMS)
- May serve as project coordinator on specific initiatives as designated by the Director of Education.
- Represent WSKG at tabling events in schools, community organizations, and other outreach settings.
- Create and prepare resources for distribution, including bookmarks, flyers, stickers, and other promotional materials.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Associates Degree in Education, Liberal Arts, or equivalent required.
- Proficiency in and/or adaptability for learning a wide array of productivity and creative applications including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Canva.
- Demonstrated experience, interest and enthusiasm in education and public media, preferred.
- Strong organization and communications skills, especially written/verbal, required for frequent interaction with educators, students, partners and public.
- Must be willing to travel in the WSKG region.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Willingness and ability to work occasional varied hours as needed for events (evenings and weekends) required (factored into maximum 20 hour work week).
