Compensation: $40,000/year base salary (non-exempt, overtime eligible), plus per-survey incentive pay of $100 per completed residential survey and $150 per completed commercial survey. Expected total annual earnings: $70,000–$100,000 depending on survey volume. This is not a commission sales position.
About the role
We're hiring a Site Surveyor to be the person our customers meet at their property. You'll collect the site information our engineering and design teams need to build accurate solar, heat pump, and HVAC proposals — drone photography, roof measurements and condition assessment, and documentation of the home's electrical service and equipment.
This is a technical, customer-facing role, not a sales role. You will not be asked to sell anything. Your job is to be the expert in the room: to run a clean, thorough survey and to leave the homeowner feeling confident that a professional has been to their home. You'll also help train our sales representatives on what to look for during site visits.
What you'll do
- Travel to customer properties across our upstate New York service area to complete residential and commercial site surveys
- Operate a drone to capture roof and site imagery
- Inspect and document roof condition, dimensions, orientation, obstructions, and shading
- Photograph and document electrical service equipment, including the main panel, meter, and service entrance (visual documentation only — no electrical work is performed in this role)
- Submit complete, accurate survey packages the first time, using company software on a phone, tablet, and computer
- Support and train sales representatives on survey standards and site conditions
- Communicate professionally with homeowners and business owners on site
- Follow all company safety procedures for ladder use, roof access, and work near electrical equipment
What we're looking for
- Someone who genuinely enjoys driving. This role involves up to 4–5 hours of driving per day.
- Strong comfort with technology — smartphone apps, tablets, cloud software, photo management, and digital forms
- Careful, detail-oriented work habits; the survey has to be right the first time
- Professional presence and clear communication with customers
- Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance standards
- Associate's degree preferred
- Experience in solar, roofing, HVAC, home inspection, construction, or field service is a plus but not required — we will train the right person
Physical requirements
Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to: climb ladders and safely access residential and commercial roofs; work at heights and on sloped surfaces; work outdoors in varying weather; lift and carry up to 50 lbs; sit and drive for extended periods; and work in proximity to electrical equipment.
Vehicle and travel
A company vehicle will be provided within 30 days of your start date. Before then, you'll be reimbursed for mileage driven to customer surveys. Company vehicles are not available for personal or take-home use.
