Full Job Description

Are you an experienced tax professional looking to advance your career with a small growing public accounting firm? Equus Advisors, based in Cortland, NY, is seeking a motivated Senior Tax Specialist who will soon be able to step into a more advanced tax role at our firm. You will help manage a diverse portfolio of individual and business tax clients with tax planning and tax compliance responsibilities. This position can be very flexible with time requirements outside of tax season.

What You Will Do:

Prepare and review individual, partnership, corporate and fiduciary tax returns.
Provide income tax projections and advise on estimated tax payments.
Deliver proactive tax planning and advisory services directly to clients.
Help oversee tax season workflows and review work prepared by staff.
Manage income tax audits and responses to tax notices.
Research complex tax issues and ensure strict regulatory compliance.
Actively assist with client onboarding and overall client services.

What We Look For:

3+ years of recent tax preparation and tax planning experience in a public accounting firm setting.
Proficiency with professional tax software such as UltraTax CS, CCH Access/ CCH ProSystem fx, etc.
Prefer a candidate who has or will attain the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential.
Tax professionals who would like to work towards a financial planning credential such as CFP or PFS.
Deep knowledge of federal and New York State income tax regulations.
Strong communication skills and a desire to lead.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
