Coordinate and perform tree maintenance activities including pruning and removal of trees in City right of ways, parks and natural areas. Perform tree risk assessment and other inspections related to tree health. Document inspection results and formulate recommendations. Maintain tree inventory database, create and close work orders as needed. Perform and schedule maintenance of equipment. Train tree crew and uphold the most up to date standards for tree work and crew safety. Conduct tree pruning through climbing and use of aerial lift. This position is a climbing and field arborist.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Coordinates, implements and conducts the management and maintenance of public trees including tree assessment, inspection, pruning, treatment, removal and replacement. Performs tree establishment maintenance including scheduling and watering of all newly planted trees.
Conducts safety inspections and tree risk assessment of public trees. Determines priorities of pruning, treatment, or removal. Evaluates and repairs damage to public trees.
Facilitates, monitors, and inspects the work of maintenance contractors and makes field decisions on procedures and methods. Provides input, specifications, and assistance for capital improvement projects.
Performs and schedules maintenance of equipment. Conducts and documents inspections, repairs, and condition of equipment.
Trains tree crew in tree maintenance activities and upholds the most up to date standards for tree work and crew safety. Participates in safety, association and industry training. Leads monthly tailgate training and maintains required CEU’s.
Assists with direction and training of volunteers and other employees as needed. Implements daily assignments of Seasonal Parks Workers, casual employees, and volunteers.
Serves as part of a team that develops and coordinates neighborhood tree planting and reforestation projects for parks, street right-of-ways and other public areas. Participates in the selection and purchase of tree stock. Coordinates tree related projects for seasonal workers, volunteers, and casual employee utilizing the support through the Parks Program Coordinator.
Provides technical information and recommendations to contractors, developers, City departments, citizens and governmental agencies on trees and related issues. Evaluates problematic trees and tree roots that have impacted sidewalks and roadways. Recommends next steps to determine the tree’s future. Ensures proper trees are specified for new developments and ensures the existing trees are protected during the development phase of construction projects.
Develops short- and long-term planning in collaboration with the supervisor and the Natural Resource and Stewardship team. Assists in the annual budget process specific to area of responsibility. Monitors budget, records daily expenditures and produces required reports.
Assists in determining equipment costs and material specifications. Purchases needed supplies and equipment. Maintains tree inventory database and create, maintain, and close work orders.
Serves as liaison with the public daily. Works with special interest community groups and other public agencies to coordinate projects and activities. Represents the Department at civic engagement events and advisory committees. May present at advisory committees and City Council meetings as requested.
Reviews permit applications for planting, pruning, removal and replacement of trees in the public right of way and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Provides follow-up on permit violations. Monitors tree issues with utility companies, contractors and private citizens. Investigates public complaints, provide information on municipal code or policy and implement enforcement action if required.
Applies pesticides for landscape maintenance, tree care, and invasive species control in accordance with the City’s Integrated Pest Management Plan.
Coordinates and assists with implementation of department wide events, camp cleanups, and activities as assigned. Responds to after-hours emergency calls and makes necessary repairs.
