Unity Shelter, Inc. is a provider of basic needs support, emergency shelter, and transitional housing to those experiencing homelessness in Corvallis and Benton County. Creating a safe space for people to rest, recover, and connect with supportive services is central to our mission.
Position: Shelter Staff
Reports to: Program Manager or delegate
Hours: Unity Shelter operates congregate and non-congregate shelters, staffed 24/7 with day, swing, and overnight shifts. Full and part-time positions are available, with specific schedules TBD.
Position Summary: This position provides primary supervision and support for Unity Shelter's programs. Shelter Staff are expected to provide services in a manner that is trauma-informed, respects diversity, and maintains boundaries and safe shelter conditions.
Location: Multiple locations throughout Corvallis, OR.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supervise shelter activities and manage guest access.
- Assist with meal setup, supervise dinner service, and track meal counts.
- Monitor guest and resident behavior to maintain a safe environment.
- Engage with guests and residents to ensure compliance, assess needs, and provide referrals.
- Assist guests and residents with belongings, medications, and appointment reminders.
- Maintain documentation in Shelterware, including guest logs and incident reports.
- Support meal service, laundry, and shower coordination.
- Perform perimeter checks and monitor parking areas.
- Implement de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Foster a welcoming environment for guests, residents, and community members.
- Uphold confidentiality policies and communicate shelter procedures effectively.
- Other duties as needed.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience working in social services, emergency shelter, caregiving, healthcare, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with and ability to apply trauma-informed care approaches in direct client interactions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain professionalism in high-stress situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work collaboratively as a part of a team, across multiple shifts and programs.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive direct service.

Schedule:
Please note, Shelter Staff work a rotating mix of shift types, including but not limited to:
- Rover shift (5:30am - 10:00am)
- Swing shift (4:30pm - 10:00pm)
- Overnight shift (10:00pm - 5:30am)
- Weekends
- Holidays
