Full Job Description

Position Summary

The District Manager is a key leadership position responsible for developing high-performing restaurant teams and ensuring consistent operational excellence across multiple Jersey Mike’s Subs locations. This position will begin with comprehensive training in restaurant operations to build a strong understanding of Jersey Mike’s systems, standards, culture, and expectations.

Following successful completion of training and demonstrated operational proficiency, the District Manager will transition into oversight of approximately 4–7 restaurant locations. This is a highly mobile position requiring regular travel between restaurants, hands-on involvement with store teams, and a strong presence in the field.

The ideal candidate is a motivated leader who enjoys developing people, driving results, holding teams accountable, and creating an exceptional experience for both customers and employees.

Training & Development

The District Manager will initially complete hands-on training in the fundamental operations of a Jersey Mike’s restaurant. Training will include:

Learning all restaurant positions and daily operating procedures
Food preparation, product quality, and food safety standards
Opening and closing procedures
Customer service and Jersey Mike’s hospitality standards
Labor management and employee scheduling
Inventory management and food cost controls
Hiring, onboarding, training, and employee development
Cash handling and financial controls
Restaurant cleanliness and maintenance expectations
Understanding key restaurant performance metrics
Learning Jersey Mike’s brand standards and company culture

The District Manager must demonstrate a strong understanding of restaurant-level operations before transitioning into full multi-unit leadership responsibilities.

District Manager Responsibilities

Once fully trained, the District Manager will be responsible for overseeing approximately 4–7 Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants and their respective management teams.

Key responsibilities include:

Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability to General Managers and restaurant leadership teams
Regularly visit each assigned restaurant and maintain a strong presence within the stores
Ensure restaurants consistently meet Jersey Mike’s operational, food quality, customer service, cleanliness, and food safety standards
Develop General Managers, Assistant Managers, Shift Leaders, and future leadership candidates
Recruit and retain strong restaurant leadership teams
Ensure restaurants maintain appropriate staffing levels
Review and manage restaurant schedules and labor performance
Monitor sales, labor, food cost, profitability, customer feedback, and other key performance indicators
Identify underperforming areas and work directly with General Managers to develop corrective action plans
Conduct restaurant evaluations, operational audits, and follow-up visits
Ensure all restaurants are properly prepared for brand evaluations, food safety audits, and other inspections
Maintain consistent execution of company policies and operating procedures
Support new restaurant openings, leadership transitions, and other operational initiatives as needed
Promote a positive, accountable, and team-oriented culture throughout the district
Recognize and develop high-performing employees for future advancement
Address employee relations and performance issues professionally and consistently
Ensure General Managers understand expectations and are held accountable for restaurant results
Communicate regularly with senior leadership regarding restaurant performance, staffing, opportunities, and operational concerns
Lead by example and represent Jersey Mike’s Subs and the organization professionally at all times

Travel & Mobility Requirements

This is not a desk-based position. The District Manager is expected to spend the majority of their working time supporting and evaluating restaurant operations in the field.

Candidates must:

Have reliable transportation
Possess a valid driver’s license
Be comfortable traveling regularly between multiple restaurant locations
Be willing to adjust their schedule based on operational needs
Be available to visit restaurants during different dayparts, including opening, lunch, dinner, evenings, and weekends when necessary
Be willing to provide hands-on operational support when a restaurant requires additional leadership

Qualifications

Previous restaurant, retail, hospitality, or multi-unit management experience preferred
Strong leadership and people-development skills
Ability to coach employees while maintaining clear expectations and accountability
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple locations and priorities simultaneously
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable analyzing restaurant financial and operational performance
Ability to identify problems and implement practical solutions
Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to organizational goals
Willingness to learn Jersey Mike’s operations from the ground up
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the restaurants
Reliable transportation and ability to travel frequently between restaurant locations

Physical Requirements

The District Manager must be capable of performing restaurant-level responsibilities when needed, including:

Standing and walking for extended periods
Working in a fast-paced restaurant environment
Bending, reaching, and performing repetitive restaurant tasks
Lifting and carrying restaurant products, supplies, and equipment as required
Working alongside restaurant employees during periods of high volume

Leadership Expectations

A successful District Manager does more than inspect restaurants. This individual is expected to develop people, build strong teams, and create sustainable results.

District Managers should be highly visible within their restaurants and actively involved in developing their General Managers. The goal is to create restaurants that consistently deliver outstanding customer service, strong financial performance, operational excellence, and a workplace where employees have opportunities to learn and advance.

The District Manager will ultimately be evaluated on the performance of their restaurants, the strength of their leadership teams, employee development and retention, operational consistency, and their ability to uphold the standards and culture of Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
