Job Description: Paraeducator – Reading/Math Tutor
Responsible to: Building Principal and Supervising Teacher
Work Year: 180 Days, 20 hours/week (1 hour noon supervision support and 3 hours LAP support)
General: Will work under the direction and in cooperation with a certificated staff member. The instructional assistant will provide academic support and work with individual and small groups of students in the classroom setting before, during or after the school day.
Minimum Qualification:

At a minimum, AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or

Ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (i.e., para-educator assessment).

Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Bilingual skills desirable

Knowledge or training in positive behavior management and supports

Ability to learn and monitor various student learning apps and programs

Ability to operate standard office equipment plus computer skills with knowledge of Google applications.

Sensitivity towards children; ability to promote a child’s self-concept and self-regulation skills

Engage with students and staff to support a positive school climate.

Previous successful experience of working with school-age children.

Must be able to obtain a valid First Aid certificate and CPR training if required.

Ability to maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified under contract.

Position Responsibilities:

Assist supervising teacher(s) by administering tests, scoring tests, filing papers, maintaining student progress reports, organizing materials, setting up projects and giving support as required

Tutor individual and small groups of students to carry out daily reading and/or math instructional goals as necessary; provide guidance and motivation to students, facilitate mastery of skills concepts, promote completion of work.

Correct student assignments.

Assist students/teacher with technology and materials.

Prepare and inventory materials necessary for the classroom assignments.

Facilitate appropriate behavior and classroom participation of students.

Perform such other duties as, from time to time, may be required.

Education and/or Experience:
AA degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing. Previous experience working with elementary-age children desirable. First Aid card and CPR training may be required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff. Bilingual skills desirable.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
