Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant role supports the business through recording and accounting for a variety of transactions, reconciling accounts, and other related responsibilities to support the close and audit processes. This role will be on-site working directly with the Accounting Manager to ensure timely monthly and year-end close and reporting requirements are met. Some overtime during month end and year end are necessary to meet required deadlines. This accountant must be dependable, motivated, collaborative with a customer service orientation, and willing/able to ramp up quickly. This position also must be able to adapt to change and pivot as needed to meet business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, and supporting schedules.
Prepare bank reconciliations and support cash accounting activities.
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed, including research and resolution of variances.
Prepare and maintain timely balance sheet account reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances.
Maintain general ledger integrity by ensuring appropriate classification/coding, supporting documentation, and compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
Assist with external audit, tax, and regulatory requests by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations.
Provide support for setup, testing, migration and implementation of new and existing software.
Provide backup for various positions in accounting department as assigned.
Document accounting procedures and participate in process improvement initiatives to strengthen controls and efficiency.
Communicate effectively with cross-functional departments to obtain information, clarify transactions, and resolve accounting issues.
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General Ledger, Financial Reporting, GAAP, Variance Analysis
Excellent collaboration with other departments, auditors, and affiliated teams
Detail oriented in completion of work; incorporates feedback for continued improvement
Solid organizational and time-management skills
Strong technology skills, including advanced Excel skills
Ability to work in multiple systems and with data from a variety of sources

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
2+ years of accounting experience.
Solid knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and basic internal control principles.
Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Proficiency with Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) and experience working in an ERP system.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, communicate clearly, work independently but also in groups as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of accounting experience.
CPA or CPA-eligible; public accounting experience a plus.
Experience in any of the following a plus: fixed assets, registrations and business licenses, property tax, various tax experience including sales and use tax, report writing, treasury management, benefit plan reporting/audits, consolidation process, and system integrations.
Preferred: accounting experience in a 3PL, manufacturing, or transportation environment
