Full Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing public accounting firm. This position will support tax preparation, bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and financial reporting for a diverse client base.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy and client service. You will work with software such as QuickBooks, Sage, UltraTax CS, SafeSend, Microsoft Excel, and other accounting and tax applications.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare individual and business income tax returns, including returns for C corporations, S corporations, and partnerships.
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.
Review general ledger and balance sheet accounts for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
Perform bookkeeping and assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures.
Analyze financial information and investigate account discrepancies.
Maintain organized, accurate documentation in accordance with firm procedures.
Communicate professionally with clients to request information and resolve accounting or tax-related questions.
Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other client accounting functions as needed.
Protect confidential client and financial information.
Collaborate with team members to meet client expectations and filing deadlines.

Qualifications

Previous accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation, or related finance experience.
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
Experience preparing individual and business income tax returns.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or tax software.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
Self-motivated and dependable, with the ability to take initiative, work independently, manage competing priorities, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a public accounting or tax firm.
Familiarity with QuickBooks, Sage, UltraTax CS, SafeSend, or similar applications.
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
