Laboratory Technician I

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Job Overview
The Laboratory Technician I supports plant operations by performing routine sampling and basic laboratory testing to ensure product quality and compliance with established standards. Working under the guidance of laboratory leadership, this role assists with daily quality control activities, maintains accurate testing records, and helps ensure a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
This position is ideal for someone who is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and interested in building a career in laboratory operations within a mining and industrial manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Collect and prepare samples of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products for analysis.
- Perform routine laboratory testing, including moisture analysis, pH testing, particle size analysis, and other quality control tests.
- Accurately record and maintain laboratory data, test results, and documentation in logs and computer databases.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Identify and report abnormal test results, equipment concerns, or sample discrepancies to laboratory leadership.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and keep work areas clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
- Assist production and quality teams in meeting daily operational objectives.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands-on experience in laboratory operations, quality control, and sample collection is required.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using laboratory software or Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work from elevated platforms, and safely use hand tools such as shovels, hammers, and wrenches.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
Preferred
- Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or another related scientific field.
- Previous laboratory, quality control, manufacturing, mining, or industrial experience.
- Working knowledge of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations.
- Forklift certification or operating experience.
- Warehouse or material handling experience.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good problem-solving and communication skills.

- Proficient with basic computer applications and data entry.
