Full Job Description

Insurance Accounts Receivable & Claims Specialist

Universal Construction & Restorations
Part-Time | Remote or In-Office
$25–$40 per hour, based on experience and performance

Universal Construction & Restorations is looking for an experienced Insurance Claims Specialist to take ownership of the financial closeout process for our insurance restoration projects.

We are successfully completing and building insurance restoration projects, and we are looking for an experienced professional whose primary focus will be making sure the back-end money gets collected.

This position is ideal for someone who already understands property insurance restoration and knows how to review a completed claim, determine what money is still outstanding, and actively work the file until all available insurance and customer funds have been collected.

This is not an entry-level position.

We are willing to pay well for someone with the experience and knowledge to step into this role and produce results.

Compensation & Schedule

Starting Pay: $25–$40/hour

Pay will be determined based on:

Direct insurance restoration experience
Ability to read and understand insurance estimates
Knowledge of depreciation, supplements, ACV/RCV and claim payments
Accounts receivable/collections experience
Ability to independently manage and resolve outstanding claim balances
Overall performance and results

This position will start part-time, with the opportunity for additional hours and growth based on company needs and performance.

Work Location

Remote OR In-Office

Qualified candidates may work remotely or from our office.

Remote candidates must be highly organized, dependable, responsive during scheduled working hours, and capable of independently managing a large number of active files.

What You Will Be Responsible For

Your primary responsibility is to take our completed insurance restoration jobs and help get them PAID IN FULL.

You will work from our job management system daily to identify outstanding balances and determine exactly what needs to happen next on each account.

Responsibilities include:

Review completed insurance restoration jobs daily.
Read and interpret insurance estimates, scopes of loss, claim summaries and payment breakdowns.
Understand and identify RCV, ACV, deductibles, recoverable depreciation, non-recoverable depreciation, supplements and prior insurance payments.
Compare insurance estimates, approved supplements, invoices and payments to determine exactly what remains outstanding.
Prepare and submit final invoices and required documentation to insurance carriers.
Request release of final recoverable depreciation.
Follow up on outstanding supplement payments.
Contact insurance carriers and adjusters regarding outstanding payments.
Determine whether checks have been issued, the amount issued, issue date and payees.
Investigate missing, delayed, partial or incorrect payments.
Follow up with homeowners when insurance checks have been issued directly to them.
Track checks involving mortgage companies when applicable.
Identify missing documents preventing payment and work with our team to obtain them.
Maintain detailed notes documenting calls, emails, payment updates and next steps.
Establish follow-up dates for every outstanding account.
Continue working each account until payment is received or the reason for the outstanding balance has been fully resolved.
Provide management with clear updates regarding outstanding accounts and expected incoming payments.

You Must Know How to Read an Insurance Estimate

We are specifically looking for someone who understands the financial side of a property insurance claim.

You should be comfortable looking at an insurance estimate and determining:

Total RCV
ACV payment
Deductible
Recoverable depreciation
Non-recoverable depreciation
Prior payments
Supplemental amounts
Remaining insurance proceeds
Customer responsibility
Outstanding balance

You should be able to look at a completed job file and answer:

“How much money are we still owed, who owes it, why haven't we received it, and what needs to happen next to get it?”

Preferred Experience

We strongly prefer candidates with previous experience in:

Roofing and restoration
Property insurance claims
Restoration accounts receivable
Insurance billing
Insurance supplements
Xactimate estimates
Recoverable depreciation
Mortgage company insurance checks
Insurance carrier follow-up
Contractor invoicing
AccuLynx or similar restoration CRM software

AccuLynx experience is a major plus.

Most importantly, we need someone who follows through.

Sending one email is not considered completing the task.

If money is outstanding, we expect you to determine why, establish the next action, follow up when necessary, document the account and continue working the file until the payment issue is resolved.

What Success Looks Like

The goal of this position is straightforward:

Completed jobs should not sit unpaid.

You will take ownership of our back-end insurance accounts receivable process and help ensure that recoverable depreciation, approved supplements, final insurance payments and customer balances are collected as quickly as possible.
