Job Summary

The Community Engagement Coach designs, coordinates, and actively facilitates structured social and community-based experiences for neurodiverse young adults. This role supports participants in building social confidence, independence, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and community participation skills through Social Fridays, Choice Social, classroom support, 1:1 check-ins, community outings, and other program activities. The Community Engagement Coach balances warmth, enthusiasm, and relationship-building with clear boundaries, accountability, and active support for participant growth. This is an active facilitation role: the Community Engagement Coach is expected to create structure, initiate engagement, and help participants practice skills rather than simply supervise activities or socialize alongside participants.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

● Lead the planning and execution of Social Friday programming throughout the year in collaboration with the other Community Engagement Coach and program staff. Responsibilities include gathering participant input, selecting activities, coordinating reservations and transportation, communicating plans, preparing materials, and addressing logistical or safety considerations.

● Plan and actively facilitate two 30-minute Choice Social periods each week.

● Participate in at least one of three overnight summer social trips and assist with planning, logistics, supervision, and participant support.

● Coordinate or support additional community-based activities in collaboration with Capstone staff.

● Actively facilitate peer-to-peer engagement during Social Fridays, Choice Social, classroom activities, and community outings by prompting participation, modeling appropriate interaction, supporting emotional regulation, and helping participants build independence.

● Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and positive energy during social, recreational, and community-based activities.

● Maintain appropriate professional boundaries while fostering positive participant relationships.

● Provide 1:1 pullouts, breaks, and check-ins when applicable and necessary.

● Actively support participant engagement by reinforcing lead instructor goals, redirecting off-task behavior, and encouraging participation.

● Reinforce executive functioning skills during social and community activities, including planning, transitions, flexibility, emotional regulation, follow-through, and task completion.

● Identify participant strengths, support needs, and areas for growth in socialization, executive functioning, independence, and community engagement.

● Document participant observations, engagement patterns, support needs, and progress toward social/community engagement goals.

● Contribute relevant observations and progress updates for participant planning and family meetings, and attend meetings when requested.

● Engage in effective and appropriate behavior management and support.

Minimum Requirements, Credentials, and Experience

● Associate or bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Recreational Therapy, Counseling, Special Education, Community Health Education, Youth Development, Family Studies, Recreation Management, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field; OR at least two years of direct experience working with neurodiverse young adults and/or adults with disabilities

● Demonstrated ability to build positive, appropriate relationships with young adults

● Ability and desire to plan, organize, and actively facilitate structured social, recreational, and community-based activities.

● Comfort leading group activities, initiating social engagement, redirecting off-task behavior, and supporting participants through moments of frustration, anxiety, dysregulation, or disengagement.

● Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with participants, families, coworkers, and supervisors.

● Respond constructively to feedback, follow established expectations, and reliably complete agreed-upon responsibilities.

● Model professionalism, effective communication, organization, teamwork, appropriate boundaries, and emotional regulation.

● Flexible, reliable, and adaptable across classroom, community, social, and 1:1 support settings.

● Ability to work effectively as a team member

● Willingness to be held accountable for results

● Successfully pass a criminal background check

● Valid Minnesota Driver’s License

● Driving record that meets organizational insurance requirements

Preferred Credentials, and Experience

● Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field AND at least 2 years of work experience with young adults with neurodiversities

Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
