GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

Medical | Commercial | Ground-Up | OSHPD/HCAI

Position: General Superintendent
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Southern California, Los Angeles – Multiple Project Locations

EH Butland, Corp is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and results-driven General Superintendent to lead field operations for a growing Southern California general contracting company specializing in medical, commercial, ground-up, parking structures (above/below), OSHPD/HCAI, and complex construction projects. The ideal candidate is an accomplished construction professional with the leadership experience and technical knowledge necessary to oversee 10–14 active projects simultaneously.

This is a senior leadership position requiring someone who can effectively manage multiple Superintendents, subcontractors, project teams, schedules, and client expectations while maintaining exceptional standards for safety, quality, schedule, and execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide overall field leadership and oversight for 10–14 concurrent construction projects throughout California.

2. Lead, mentor, and manage filed Superintendents and field personnel.

3. Establish expectations for field execution, safety, quality, scheduling, and productivity.

4. Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and ensure company standards are being maintained.

5. Review project schedules and identify potential delays, conflicts, manpower issues, and critical path concerns.

6. Coordinate with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors.

7. Ensure construction is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, contracts, schedules, and applicable codes.

8. Oversee complex construction activities including structural concrete, excavation, shoring, underground utilities, subterranean parking, MEP systems, and building finishes.

9. Provide leadership on OSHPD/HCAI projects, ensuring field teams understand and comply with applicable requirements and inspection processes.

10. Ensure proper coordination and sequencing of subcontractors and trades.

11. Monitor manpower, productivity, material deliveries, equipment, and site logistics.

12. Identify problems early and implement solutions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

13. Maintain a strong company-wide safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.

14. Perform quality-control inspections and ensure deficiencies are identified and corrected promptly.

15. Participate in preconstruction, project turnover, scheduling, and closeout activities.

16. Maintain consistent communication between field operations and executive/project management.

17. Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.

18. Hold Superintendents and subcontractors accountable for performance while maintaining a professional and collaborative working environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. 10+ years of commercial construction experience, with substantial field leadership experience.

2. Previous experience as a General Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, or Director-level field operations leader.

3. Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.

4. Strong experience with ground-up construction.

5. Experience with medical/healthcare construction and OSHPD/HCAI projects strongly preferred.

6. Experience with subterranean parking, excavation, shoring, concrete, structural work, and complex MEP systems highly preferred.

7. Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, sequencing, quality control, and safety.

8. Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and specialty construction drawings.

9. Strong knowledge of California construction practices, codes, regulations, and inspection requirements.

10. Proven ability to manage and develop Superintendents and field teams.

11. Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

12. Ability to identify construction issues before they become schedule or cost problems.

13. Proficiency with construction management and scheduling software preferred.

The ideal candidate knows how to build and lead a strong Superintendent team, establish accountability, identify risks early, and provide senior-level support when projects encounter challenges. You should be comfortable walking a complex jobsite, reviewing a project schedule, understanding the technical requirements of a medical or OSHPD/HCAI project, and quickly determining what needs to happen to keep the project moving. You must be able to manage competing priorities, communicate effectively with executive management and clients, and maintain control of multiple projects without losing sight of the details.
