90 Degree Benefits, a national Third-Party Administrator (TPA) supporting health benefit programs, is seeking a dynamic detail-oriented self starter to join our team and drive data-driven decision-making across our organization as Business Operations & Systems Analyst.
In this role, you will act as a bridge between business needs and technical solutions, analyzing complex data sets, developing insightful reports, and supporting strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with computers, data, and business applications; enjoys figuring out how systems work; investigating inconsistencies; and following issues through to root cause and resolution. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful business intelligence solutions that support continuous improvement.
We aren’t looking for someone who already knows every system we use. We ARE looking for someone with strong analytical ability, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn a wide variety of applications—from Microsoft products and data/reporting tools to SQL environments and specialized healthcare claims-adjudication systems.
This position will initially focus on learning several key reporting and operational processes. As the individual's knowledge of our systems and business grows, the role will expand into a broader problem-solving and operational support position.
Our long-term goal is to develop the selected candidate into someone who understands our technology and business well enough to take ownership of problems, research solutions, work across departments, communicate effectively, and see issues through to resolution.
Responsibilities
- Learn and become proficient in the various systems and applications used throughout the organization.
- Support recurring carrier reporting, data, and operational processes.
- Work across Microsoft applications, reporting tools, databases, SQL environments, claims-adjudication systems, and other business applications.
- Work with spreadsheets, reports, and data files to identify discrepancies, trends, and potential issues.
- Learn how information and data move between internal systems, clients, carriers, vendors, and other partners.
- Develop a working knowledge of our claims-adjudication systems and understand how claims are processed from beginning to end.
- Learn the operational functions surrounding claims, eligibility, implementation, billing, reporting, and client service.
- Research system, data, and operational issues to identify the underlying cause and appropriate resolution.
- Review and validate reports and data for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
- Assist with implementations, system changes, process improvements, reporting initiatives, and special projects
- Identify opportunities to improve or automate manual processes.
- Work across departments on issues that do not fall neatly within one functional area.
- Clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and resolutions to management, internal teams, clients, brokers, carriers, and vendors when appropriate.
- Take ownership of assigned issues and follow them through to completion.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience/backgrounds
Relevant backgrounds could include:
Business operations
Business or systems analysis
Data analysis
Information systems
Healthcare or insurance operations
Finance or Accounting
Technical operations/support
Business administration
Other analytical or technology-oriented positions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially EXCEL.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients, brokers, leadership, coworkers, and internal teams.
- Excellent organization, time management, prioritization, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple requests, deadlines, and follow-up items accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ownership and follow-through, including the ability to research questions, coordinate with internal teams, and resolve client issues from start to finish.
- Ability to work independently on daily responsibilities while collaborating effectively with Claims, Eligibility, Customer Service, Finance, Operations, and other internal teams.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn internal systems, benefit program details, and account procedures as client needs change.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism.

- Can analyze information from multiple sources and connect the pieces to identify the underlying issue.
- Can be handed an unfamiliar or loosely defined problem, research it, ask the right questions, and develop a path toward resolution.
- Can work independently without needing every step prescribed.
- Takes ownership, follows through, and makes sure issues don't fall through the cracks.
- Can balance attention to detail with an understanding of the bigger picture.
- Communicates technical or complicated issues clearly and practically.
- Is comfortable moving between technical, analytical, administrative, and operational work depending on what needs to be accomplished.
Technology & Systems
The individual will work with and learn a variety of technologies, which may include:
- Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel.
- Databases and reporting environments.
- SQL and existing SQL queries.
- Data files and data-transfer processes.
- Healthcare claims-adjudication systems, including legacy platforms.
- Eligibility and benefits-administration systems.
- Reporting and analytics tools.
- Web-based client and member applications.
- Various carrier, vendor, and internal business systems.
Prior experience is not required for every area listed. More important is demonstrated comfort with computers and technology, analytical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to learn unfamiliar applications quickly.
How the Role Will Develop
Initially, the focus will be on learning—our systems, reporting processes, data, workflows, and business. As that knowledge develops, the expectation progresses from learning how to perform a process, to understanding why the process works that way, to independently investigating problems and helping drive solutions.
The goal is for this person to become a go-to resource across the organization for systems, data, reporting, operational issues, and special projects—someone who can dig into the details, understand the bigger picture, involve the right people, and drive problems through to resolution.
