We are looking for a Production Manager who is a self-starter and HIGHLY motivated with the ability to thrive in an ever-changing environment and collaborate with a company of talented, motivated individuals.
The Production Manager is a team player and key leader with a long-term, career-minded approach to daily responsibilities. Food manufacturing experience required. This is an ONSITE position.
The Production Manager directly oversees the day-to-day activities of the production team supervisors, production teams, and support staff including the training of machine equipment while developing a positive team environment . The Production Manager ensures there is a continuous and efficient operation throughout the production lines according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to produce a safe quality finished product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to,
- Support in creating a daily production schedule of materials for processing. This includes ensuring job sheet numbers, lot numbers and packaging requirements are correct for all jobs, raw ingredients or finished product . Provide information to the support staff and ensure a consistent and efficient flow of jobs are provided to the Production teams on a daily basis.
- Maintain communication with management and key personnel regarding any issues or delays in meeting expected completion dates.
- Identify and propose process abnormalities or inefficiencies and discuss making changes with the direct report.
- Prepare and post daily job production priority lists, along with any special instructions not included on the job sheets, for day and night shifts to ensure jobs are produced in the correct order and are ran efficiently with minimal downtime.
- Set performance expectations on each job sheet and material and monitor them closely to ensure operators are running efficiently.
- Provide a material list to Operators to ensure materials are being processed in the to comply with the daily production schedule.
- Develop a solid understanding and knowledge of all equipment and every machine and learn all the assorted cuts and mesh sizes per machine, per material. Train all operators on the most efficient technique to maximize yield and minimize processing time.
- Ensure daily compliance of all GMP (good manufacturing practice) within the Production Department.
- Ensure ingredients are processed with as minimal handling as possible following HACCP/QC food handling requirements.
- Enforce the safe handling of equipment, follow proper procedures with special emphasis on safety (e.g., personal protective equipment). Ensure all production personnel are operating and handling all equipment according to safety training procedures/protocol.
- Coordinate with Receiving, the unloading of products from overseas containers and reverify weights.
- Create a material Production schedule. Coordinate material runs for each piece of equipment to ensure minimum downtime and processing efficiency, according to the open order report and sales obligations.
- Coordinate with Quality Control and all team members in a collaborative manner, with the goal to produce a quality finished product
- Develop a solid understanding of production needs, slowdowns, peak seasons, and utilize this information to maximize efficiency in the Production department.
- Provide month-end projections, as requested.
- Process all work to meet metrics/KPIs by continuously training all teams to operate equipment effectively and minimize downtime.
- Consistently monitor all equipment to produce quality finished product.
- Ensure all teams are cross trained on all equipment to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Identify and propose new practices and improvements to equipment processing line.
- Manage and lead the production shift supervisors and production employees, conduct ongoing training, coaching and performance management. Train teams in safety, production goal setting, and equipment procedures to maximize efficiency of equipment.
- Oversee and conduct training with all production teams to address material processing issues, and provide solutions, to ensure all materials are being produced efficiently, and according to quality standards.
- Establish performance metrics for the shift supervisors and the production employees to identify areas of improvement and instill necessary changes to increase efficiency.
- Provide ongoing progress reports of production supervisors and production teams’ performance in order to monitor their efficiency and discuss solutions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- A High School diploma or equivalent, required. Associate degree in business or related field a plus. Four additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- At least 3 years' experience in Food Manufacturing in a management role required.
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment. Perform minor repairs on equipment to ensure operations continue with minimal delays.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel, Outlook, Word or related software.
- General Lab knowledge (e.g., mesh size, general understanding of specification sheets), a plus.
- Forklift or driving a motor vehicle experience, a plus.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent time management and coordination skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Able to work under deadline pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Strong work ethic, high energy level and positive attitude. Long-term career minded individual.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Sitting at a desk working on a computer (approximately 50% of the time).
- Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection (ear plugs), or Hard Hats.
- Ability to work in conditions of hazardous, heat, humidity, and temperature changes.
- Ability to work in loud conditions.
