Lead Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal

The Dashner Law Firm – Irving, Texas
Starting Salary: $65,000+ annually, depending on experience
Full-Time | In-Office Position
Spanish-speaking preferred, but not required

The Dashner Law Firm has an immediate opening for an experienced Lead Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal to join our personal injury practice.

This is not an entry-level paralegal position.

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of recent plaintiff-side personal injury experience, including substantial experience serving as the lead paralegal responsible for managing a litigation docket. Candidates whose experience is primarily administrative, intake, or legal assistant work will not be considered for this position.

While substantial litigation experience is required, pre-litigation personal injury experience is also strongly preferred. The person hired for this position will be responsible for both a litigation docket and a smaller pre-litigation docket and must be comfortable handling personal injury cases from the beginning of the case through settlement.

The ideal candidate is an experienced personal injury paralegal who can take ownership of cases, work independently, anticipate deadlines and attorney needs, communicate effectively with clients, and keep cases moving toward resolution.

Responsibilities

The Lead Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal will be responsible for managing both litigation and pre-litigation matters.

Litigation Responsibilities

Manage an active plaintiff personal injury litigation docket;
Assist attorneys with cases from filing through settlement or trial;
Draft petitions, motions, notices, and other pleadings;
Draft and respond to interrogatories, requests for production, requests for disclosure, and requests for admission;
Manage written discovery and ensure timely responses and supplementation;
Calendar and monitor discovery deadlines, scheduling orders, hearings, depositions, mediations, and trial settings;
Coordinate depositions, mediations, expert witnesses, and court appearances;
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, experts, medical providers, and other parties;
Obtain, organize, review, and summarize medical records, billing records, and other case evidence;
Assist attorneys with preparation for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial;
Organize exhibits, witness materials, medical records, deposition materials, and trial documents;
Monitor cases to ensure deadlines are met and files continue moving toward resolution; and
Maintain accurate and organized electronic case files.

Pre-Litigation Responsibilities

In addition to the litigation docket, the paralegal will manage a pre-litigation personal injury docket and will be expected to:

Handle assigned personal injury cases from the beginning of the representation through settlement or transfer into litigation;
Maintain regular communication with clients regarding treatment, case status, and the claims process;
Communicate with insurance adjusters, medical providers, lienholders, and other parties;
Obtain and review accident reports, insurance information, medical records, medical bills, photographs, and other evidence;
Monitor clients' medical treatment and maintain complete and current medical documentation;
Assist with preparation of settlement demands and supporting documentation;
Assist attorneys with settlement negotiations and case evaluation;
Identify cases that should be moved into litigation and assist with that transition; and
Assist with settlement documentation and resolution of cases.

Required Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

At least five years of recent plaintiff-side personal injury experience;
Substantial personal injury litigation experience;
Prior experience as a lead paralegal with primary responsibility for managing a litigation docket;
Experience with Texas civil litigation and discovery;
Experience drafting and responding to written discovery;
Experience managing court deadlines, scheduling orders, depositions, mediations, and trial settings;
Strong knowledge of personal injury claims and litigation procedures;
Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
The ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple cases and deadlines; and
Professional communication skills when dealing with clients, opposing counsel, courts, insurance adjusters, and attorneys.

Prior experience independently handling plaintiff personal injury cases in the pre-litigation stage is strongly preferred.

Spanish-speaking ability is preferred but is not required.
