Full Job Description

Plant Technician (L2/L3)

Location: Dallas, TX

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Plant Technicians (L2 & L3) to support pilot plant operations in a fast-paced chemical processing environment. This role is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting pilot plant equipment while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. Senior-level technicians will also lead process improvements, mentor junior team members, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor pilot plant equipment, including pumps, reactors, mixers, filtration systems, and related process equipment.
Monitor process conditions such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and control systems to maintain optimal operating performance.
Collect samples and perform quality control testing to ensure products meet quality standards.
Record and maintain accurate production logs and operational data.
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and basic equipment repairs.
Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and process deviations to minimize downtime.
Follow all environmental, health, and safety procedures when handling chemicals and operating equipment.
Read and interpret technical manuals, P&IDs, SOPs, and work instructions.
Work closely with engineering, maintenance, quality, and operations teams.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities.
Conduct root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, SPC, or DOE.
Senior (L3): Lead process optimization, improve SOPs and documentation, recommend automation and workflow improvements, coordinate complex repairs with vendors, lead Kaizen/Gemba activities, and train and mentor junior technicians.

Qualifications

L2: 5–6 years of experience in plant operations, chemical processing, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
L3: 7–10 years of experience with demonstrated leadership in process optimization, troubleshooting, and mentoring.
Strong understanding of chemical processes and industrial manufacturing.
Experience operating reactors, pumps, mixers, filtration systems, and other process equipment.
Knowledge of PLC, DCS, or SCADA process control systems is preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with quality control, process documentation, and SOPs.
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work safely in a chemical manufacturing environment.
