Company Description Dallas County Sheriff's Office is a public safety and law enforcement agency serving the residents and communities of Dallas County. Team members work in a structured environment with clear procedures and training designed to support safety and accountability. Role Description Starting pay is $26.09/hr. The Detention Officer role is a full-time 40 hr., on-site position located in Dallas, TX. There are two mandatory overtime staffing days per week where if utilized, your weekly hours could reach 56 (You are not guaranteed to be used every week). There is ample overtime available if you are interested in volunteering. This is an entry-level position with no previous experience required. We will train you and help make sure you are successful in your career with us!

Detention Officers are responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates housed in our facilities. This includes monitoring inmate activity, conducting regular security checks, and enforcing facility rules and regulations. Daily tasks include supervising inmate movement, performing searches, documenting incidents, and responding to emergencies in accordance with established protocols. The role also involves interacting with inmates, staff, and visitors in a professional manner, maintaining accurate records, and following all departmental policies, safety standards, and legal requirements.

Qualifications

Strong detention and inmate supervision skills, with the ability to maintain safety, order, and compliance within a secure facility.
Knowledge of physical security practices, including monitoring, searches, access control, and emergency response procedures.
Understanding of criminal justice principles and procedures relevant to detention and court-related processes.
Experience or training in law enforcement and public safety, with commitment to ethical conduct and community-focused service.
Ability to remain calm under pressure, make sound decisions in high-stress situations, and follow detailed policies and protocols.
Good written and verbal communication skills, including accurate report writing and clear communication with diverse populations.
Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and meet physical requirements of the role.
High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework or certification in criminal justice or related fields is preferred.
Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and any required licensing or training mandated by the agency and state regulations.
