Full Job Description

Overview
At Payeload, we are scaling a national delivery network built on speed, reliability, and strong carrier partnerships. The Owner-Operator Recruiting & Onboarding Specialist is responsible for building and sustaining a high-quality network of 3rd party owner-operators across all markets.

This role owns the full lifecycle of carrier acquisition—from sourcing and vetting to onboarding and activation—ensuring we have the right drivers, equipment, and coverage aligned to demand.

This is a high-impact position that directly supports market growth, service performance, and operational stability.

Key Responsibilities

Carrier Recruiting & Sourcing

Proactively source and recruit qualified owner-operators across target markets (Hot Shot, Route, Dedicated, Flatbed/Moffett)
Build and manage a consistent pipeline of drivers in growth and recovery markets
Utilize job boards, referrals, outreach campaigns, and field recruiting strategies
Identify gaps in coverage and take ownership of filling them quickly

Carrier Vetting & Qualification

Review and validate carrier documentation:
Insurance (COI compliance)
Equipment type and condition
Licensing and authority
Ensure all carriers meet Payeload operational and safety standards
Partner with operations to align driver capabilities with service requirements

Onboarding & Activation

Own the end-to-end onboarding process for all 3rd party carriers
Ensure timely completion of:
Agreements and documentation
System setup (dispatch platform, tracking, communication tools)
Equipment-to-driver alignment in system
Reduce onboarding cycle time while maintaining quality standards
Ensure all new carriers are fully activated and ready to haul

Pipeline Management & Follow-Up

Build and maintain a structured onboarding pipeline with clear status tracking
Implement follow-up processes to prevent loss of qualified drivers
Ensure no missed opportunities due to lack of communication or process gaps
Provide weekly reporting on pipeline health and conversion rates

Cross-Functional Alignment

Partner with Dispatch to align driver onboarding with daily capacity needs
Collaborate with Sales to support new account launches and market expansion
Work closely with leadership on priority markets and strategic growth initiatives

Process Improvement & System Development

Develop and refine onboarding SOPs and workflows
Identify inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions
Support data tracking and reporting for onboarding performance

Onboarding Responsibility (Internal to Role)

This role is also responsible for building and executing the onboarding experience for carriers, including:

Creating a structured onboarding process (10 / 20 / 30 / 60 day framework)
Ensuring clear expectations are communicated to all new drivers
Establishing early performance checkpoints to validate driver success
Partnering with dispatch to ensure smooth transition into active operations

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Time to onboard (target: reduced cycle time)
Carrier activation rate (%)
Pipeline conversion rate (%)
Coverage fill rate in priority markets
Equipment alignment accuracy (driver → equipment → job type)
Reduction in onboarding drop-off
Contribution to maintaining 97%+ on-time delivery performance

Qualifications

3+ years in logistics, transportation, or carrier management
Proven experience recruiting or onboarding owner-operators or 3rd party carriers
Strong understanding of:
Flatbed, box truck, hot shot, and Moffett operations
DOT/insurance requirements
Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume operations
Strong organizational and follow-up skills
Ability to build relationships and communicate clearly with drivers and internal teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in last-mile or final-mile logistics
Familiarity with dispatch systems and load management platforms
Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred

Compensation

Base Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 (based on experience)
Performance Bonus: Based on onboarding volume, conversion rates, and market coverage success
Growth path into senior leadership roles as Payeload scales nationally

Move with urgency to support operational needs
Build a scalable, repeatable onboarding engine that supports Payeload’s growth

Success in this role will directly impact our ability to grow accounts, stabilize markets, and deliver a best-in-class customer experience.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
