Job Summary

We are seeking a professional, personable and persistent contractor to conduct outbound prospecting to cities, municipalities, utility departments, and sanitation organizations throughout the United States.

Your primary responsibility is to identify key decision-makers, introduce our utility meter reading and smart utility solutions, qualify potential opportunities, and schedule meetings for our sales team.

Responsibilities

Conduct outbound calls to cities, municipalities, counties, utility districts, and public agencies across the United States.

Contact departments including:

Water Utilities
Public Works
Utility Billing
Meter Services
Sanitation
Solid Waste

Identify decision-makers responsible for:

Meter reading, Field Operations and Trash Pickup

Introduce company products and services using provided messaging.

Qualify prospects by identifying current methodologies/systems, challenges, and willingness to consider alternatives.

Schedule qualified meetings aka product demonstrations for the sales team.

Record call notes and update CRM records accurately.

Follow up with prospects through phone and email as appropriate.

Maintain professionalism when interacting with prospects.

Meet established outreach and appointment-setting goals.

Ideal Candidate

Is comfortable making outbound calls that will be recorded and used for training, clarification, and validation. Be able to quickly build rapport with gatekeepers and decision makers. Is organized, self-directed, and able to work independently while maintaining consistent activity and results.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of outbound B2B calling or appointment-setting experience.
Experience selling to municipalities, utilities, government agencies, or public sector organizations is highly preferred.
Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills.
Professional telephone presence. We use Ring Central for QA call recording.
Ability to handle objections confidently and respectfully.
Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
Experience using CRM systems such as Salesforce.
Reliable high-speed internet connection, cell phone and quiet home office.
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following industries is a strong plus:

Utility meter reading
Water utilities
Utility billing
Public works
Municipal software
Sanitation or solid waste operations

Performance Expectations

Successful contractors will typically:

Reach multiple municipal decision-makers daily.
Generate qualified appointments for the sales team.
Maintain accurate CRM records.
Follow approved messaging while adapting conversations naturally.
Demonstrate professionalism in every interaction.

Contractor Requirements

Work independently as a 1099 contractor
Supply your own computer, headset, internet connection, cell phone and workspace.
Use Google Docs for notes while on the phone w/target, and for daily reports.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Maintain confidentiality of company information and prospect data.
Participate in periodic virtual training and team meetings.
Be available during normal U.S. business hours (8am-5pm) for outbound calling.
