Full Job Description

Job Overview
Youth180 is seeking a Part-Time Peer Support Specialist for youths/young adults ages 13-24 and their families who are in our treatment and recovery support programs.

Job Summary

The Peer Support Specialist provides empathetic, non-judgmental, non-clinical support to youths recovering from substance use disorders including Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). Leveraging their own lived experience in recovery, the Peer Support Specialist offers guidance, education, and encouragement to youths/young adults and their families in our Intensive Outpatient Program and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). This role involves assisting youths/young adults and their families in overcoming challenges, navigating care systems, and maintaining active engagement in their recovery journey.

Core Duties

Assist youth with recovery plans and goals.
Facilitate contacts with other people to promote learning of social and recreational skills, create community, and acquire a sense of belonging.
Work independently in community settings with flexible working hours. Evening hours are required and potentially some weekends.
Integrate strength and evidence-based practices into daily interactions with peers.
Assist in facilitating peer mutual-help groups
Provide responsible documentation of services provided in client record.
Attend case staffing meetings and ongoing training as required by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of recovery principles, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
Skills in active listening, empathy, and effective communication.
Ability to build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds and maintain professional boundaries.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain detailed documentation.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Additional training in behavioral health or a related field preferred.

Certifications/Licenses

Peer Support Specialist certification preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified time frame).
LCDC-i or LCDC preferred
MAT-specific training preferred.
Valid Texas Drivers License required

Experience

Personal, lived experience with recovery from substance use disorder.
Previous experience providing peer support or working in recovery-oriented programs strongly preferred.
Familiarity with MAT principles and practices is highly desirable.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 per week
