Job Summary
The Club Operations Manager serves as the key facilitator for day-to-day club functions, monitoring and supporting all operational areas including activities, club events, facilities, and staff, and escalating strategic matters as appropriate. This Manager is directly responsible for the day-to-day performance of front-of-house service, food & beverage operations, and kitchen staff to ensure that members and guests consistently receive a high standard of hospitality and that the club's food, beverage, and event service operations run efficiently and profitably.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Front-of-House Management
- Supervise and lead all front-of-house staff including servers, bartenders, and event support personnel.
- Set and maintain service standards that reflect the club's culture of welcoming, member-first hospitality.
- Develop and manage front-of-house staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for daily service, regattas, and special events.
- Conduct regular pre-shift briefings, performance coaching, and on-the-floor training.
- Respond to and resolve member and guest service issues promptly and professionally.
Kitchen & Food and Beverage Operations
- Oversee kitchen staff performance, workflow, and coordination with front-of-house for seamless service execution.
- Collaborate with the Vice Commodore of House and head cook/chef on menu planning, prep standards, and food quality consistency.
- Manage food, beverage, and bar inventory; purchasing, receiving, and stocking at appropriate levels for daily service, seasonal demand, and special events.
- Ensure TABC compliance and responsible alcohol service practices are consistently upheld.
- Enforce food safety and sanitation standards in compliance with Dept. of State Health Services regulations.
- Monitor portion control, waste reduction, and kitchen efficiency to support cost targets.
Financial Performance & P&L Management
- Own and manage the Food & Beverage and front-of-house P&L, including revenue, cost of goods, labor, and controllable expenses.
- Track and report on key financial metrics: food cost %, beverage cost %, labor cost %, and departmental contribution margin.
- Identify and act on opportunities to grow revenue and reduce cost inefficiencies within areas of responsibility.
- Collaborate with Regatta Chairs and Event Chairs to ensure proper event margins are achieved.
- Manage cash handling, POS reconciliation, and end-of-day reporting procedures.
Event & Regatta Support
- Coordinate F&B and service staffing for club events, regattas, and social programming.
- Work alongside event volunteers and committee chairs to deliver a seamless member and guest experience.
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for event logistics related to food, beverage, and service setup.
- Monitor event execution and address any service or operational issues in real time.
Monitoring & Facilitation of Broader Club Operations
While the Operations Manager does not lead dock operations, facilities strategy, or club-wide programming, they are expected to:
- Maintain situational awareness of dock and marina activity as it relates to event timing and member service.
- Escalate facilities concerns, safety observations, or strategic operational issues to the Commodore and BOG promptly.
- Serve as the primary point of coordination between all club departments to ensure smooth daily function.
- Provide the BOG with regular operational updates, including service quality, staffing, financial performance, and inventory status.
Staff Management & Development
- Recruit, onboard, and train Front of House, Bartenders, Kitchen Staff in alignment with club standards and culture.
- Develop employee performance metrics and conduct regular evaluations.
- Foster a team culture rooted in professionalism, accountability, and genuine hospitality.
- Manage scheduling, timekeeping, and overtime with cost-consciousness and fairness.
- Support a positive, inclusive work environment that reflects the values of the club.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; substantial equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3–5 years of management experience in a restaurant, private club, catering, or hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing front-of-house teams and kitchen staff simultaneously.
- Proven track record of P&L ownership and cost control within a food & beverage operation.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills especially with a member-based, close-knit community.
- Financial acumen with hands-on experience reading and managing P&L statements, budgets, and cost reports.
- Knowledge of TABC regulations and food safety requirements (TABC certification required or must obtain promptly upon hire).
- Proficiency in POS systems, club management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to thrive in a self-directed environment with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, event-driven setting.
Additional Preferences
- Experience in a private club, yacht club, marina, or similarly community-oriented venue is a strong plus.
- Appreciation for the outdoors; sailing or boating familiarity is a bonus.
- Certified Food Manager (ServSafe or equivalent) preferred.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a full workday.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and club events as required; occasional response to off-hours operational needs.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
