Immigration Program Assistant (Bilingual English/Spanish)/Two openings – one each in Norwalk and Danbury, CT

About Us

Catholic Charities of Fairfield County provides compassionate, affordable immigration legal services to individuals and families throughout Fairfield County. Our Immigration Program assists clients with naturalization, family-based immigration, adjustment of status, and other immigration-related matters while promoting dignity, respect, and access to justice.

We are seeking two dedicated, organized, bilingual Immigration Program Assistant to support our growing Immigration Services Program. One position will be based in Norwalk, CT which requires travel between Family Centers in Fairfield County. The other will be based in Danbury, CT to support our growing Northern Fairfield County needs.

Position Summary

The full-time (35 hours/week), benefits-eligible Immigration Program Assistant provides administrative, case management, and client support services to help ensure the effective operation of the Immigration Program. Working under the supervision of a DOJ Accredited Representative, this position assists with client intake, case preparation, document collection, data entry, community outreach, and administrative support while maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Client Services & Case Support

Conduct client intake and assist with scheduling appointments.
Assist with initial case priority assessment and client follow-up.
Support immigrants and their families through case management services.
Assist in gathering, organizing, and assembling immigration applications and supporting documentation for review.
Monitor case progress and follow up on requests for evidence and outstanding documentation.
Translate documents and provide interpretation services as needed.
Accompany clients to USCIS interviews as an interpreter on a case-by-case basis.

Administrative Support

Provide general office support including scanning, copying, faxing, mailing, filing, and record maintenance.
Collect service fees and assist with accounting deposits and reporting requirements.
Maintain accurate client records and case notes in the program database.
Compile and report program statistics and client service data.

Community Engagement

Participate in outreach events, educational presentations, and community workshops.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners and internal Catholic Charities programs to support effective referrals.
Occasionally attend events outside of regular business hours.

Professional Development

Participate in DOJ-recognized immigration law training opportunities.
Learn immigration procedures, policies, and legal service practices under the guidance of accredited staff.
Maintain awareness of professional boundaries by not providing legal advice or legal representation.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Equivalent experience may include 2–3 years working in a legal, nonprofit, social service, or administrative environment.
Experience providing client services or case management support.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in immigration legal services, nonprofit organizations, or social service programs.
Familiarity with USCIS forms and immigration processes.
Experience working with culturally diverse populations.

Skills & Abilities

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) required.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and general office technology.
Willingness to learn case management software.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
Flexibility and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Ability and willingness to travel between Family Centers, community partner locations, USCIS offices, legal clinics, outreach events, and training opportunities.
