Are you a highly skilled technical assembler or fabricator who gets bored doing the same repetitive task all day? At Emery Winslow Scale Co., we manufacture heavy-duty, legendary industrial weighing systems. We are a tight-knit team of 30 people total, with 12 skilled professionals running the floor of our 33,000 sq. ft. facility.
We are looking for a versatile mechanical craftsman who loves variety and wants to be a vital, cross-trained force in our plant. Your primary daily focus will be building, testing, and calibrating floor scales from complex blueprints. However, because our high-precision load cells are the absolute backbone of our company, you will be fully cross-trained first on our load cell line to provide critical welding and assembly redundancy. Your Day-to-Day Priorities
PRIORITY 1: Floor Scale Assembly, Testing & Calibration
- Scale Building: Assemble large-scale industrial floor systems, aligning mechanical components perfectly.
- Blueprint Reading: Independently interpret complex structural layouts and engineering drawings to build these scale systems accurately from scratch.
- Calibration & Testing: Run completed floor scales through exact testing procedures and calibrate electromechanical systems to ensure perfect accuracy before shipping.
PRIORITY 2: High-Precision Load Cell Production (Cross-Trained Backup)
- Initial Training Focus: You will train immediately on our core load cell line to master the assembly and sealing of our most critical components.
- Precision TIG Welding: Lay down clean, precise, leak-proof TIG welds on custom stainless steel load cell fittings when stepping in to support the line.
- Automated Welding Operation: Learn to set up and monitor our automated rotary welding machine, stepping in to troubleshoot, adjust, and correct the weld if the automated torch paths drift.
OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES (The Variety That Beats Boredom)
- Vendor Part Rectification: When outsourced structural weldments (base frames or decks) arrive bowed or out-of-spec from vendors; or when critical load cell parts come in out of spec, use drills, drill presses, and shop tools to fix them so production never stalls.
- Precision Industrial Drilling: Perform heavy-duty, accurate layout and drilling operations where precision hole alignment is critical.
- Quality Control Inspection: Use advanced tools (calipers, micrometers, and CMM machines) to inspect incoming purchased parts.
- Future Growth: Learn the internal electromechanical wiring and assembly of our industrial weight indicators and stainless steel enclosures.
What We Need From You
- Blueprint Literacy: Absolute proficiency in reading and executing tasks directly from complex technical blueprints and engineering schematics.
- Problem-Solving & Tool Skill: High proficiency with drills, drill presses, calipers, micrometers, and basic machine shop equipment to correct out-of-spec parts.
- TIG & Machine Literacy: Competent TIG welding skills (stainless steel experience preferred) and the technical aptitude to operate and troubleshoot automated machinery.
- Precision Focus: A steady hand and a meticulous mindset suitable for high-stakes load cell assembly, sealing, and precision fitting welds.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs and work actively on your feet in a shop environment.
- Education: Technical high school diploma, trade certification, or equivalent practical experience.
