Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Junior Ruby on Rails Developer to join our development team. This is a remote opportunity for someone with early professional experience who wants to strengthen their Ruby on Rails skills while contributing to real-world applications. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated developer eager to grow their skills in a fast-paced, agile environment while working on impactful projects.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and improve features in Ruby on Rails applications.
Write clean, readable, and maintainable code.
Troubleshoot bugs and assist with application support.
Use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build and update user interfaces.
Work with relational databases and application data.
Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members in a remote environment.
Write and maintain automated tests.
Document technical decisions, features, and development processes.
Learn existing systems and gradually take ownership of assigned features.

Experience & Required Qualifications

One to two years of experience working with Ruby.
Some professional, internship, or project experience with Ruby on Rails.
Basic understanding of Rails conventions and the MVC architecture.
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Familiarity with relational databases and basic SQL queries.
Experience using Git or another version-control system.
Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and web application development.
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
Ability to communicate clearly, manage assigned work, and collaborate effectively while remote.

Nice to Haves

Experience with Hotwire, including Turbo and Stimulus.
Experience using Haml.
Familiarity with Active Record associations, validations, and queries.
Experience writing tests with RSpec or Rails' built-in testing framework.
Familiarity with Bootstrap or another CSS framework.
Basic experience working in a Linux environment.
Familiarity with background jobs, Redis, or Resque. Exposure to Capistrano, Nginx, Passenger, AWS, or another cloud platform.
Understanding of common web security practices, including authentication and authorization.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred, in computer science or related field. Above all else, we value practical experience, curiosity, reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.

Pay & Benefits

Salary: $70,000 per year.
Insurance Coverage: Company pays 100% for the employee premiums. This is an est. $8,300 benefit value for the employee. (Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability & $50k life) - with options to add dependents at employee's cost.
Company 401(k) with generous company match.
Additional Perks: More than 3 wks. of Paid Vacation Days.
