Job Summary
We are looking for caregivers/providers who want to make a difference in the life of an individual requiring specialized support. This is an overnight PRN position similar to a nanny position but for an adult with special needs/intellectual disability. This is a one to one client-caregiver position (direct support professional) who stays with the client (our 30 year old son with autism) when primary staff members (parents) are out of the residence (work trips, etc.) This position is very flexible and fun and could be as little as ONE overnight shift/month or up to two weeks at a time. Scheduling usually occurs 2 weeks to 2 months in advance with the opportunity to pick-up shorter pop-up shifts if you are available.
*Typical shifts give you weekdays off from 10am-5pm or 9am-7pm however you remain on call during those hours in case of emergency as you would be considered the primary caregiver at that time.
Typical overnight shifts can be any night dependent upon scheduling needs 5pm-10am or 7pm-9am. Sleeping accommodations are provided.
Typical weekend shifts begin Friday 5pm-Sunday 5pm (or later dependent upon scheduling needs) *sat you are off 10am-3pm* Sunday could be up to a 24 hour shift. Sleeping accommodations are provided.
This position is fun and engaging but requires flexibility, dedication and compassion. The client is verbal and loves to go out into the community for social and recreational activities including: bowling, bingo, library, shopping, riverwalk trail, hiking, movies, etc... These are IRREGULAR shifts/hours on a PRN basis requiring overnight stays as backup residential support personnel. We are immediately hiring for both overnight coverage during the week and/or weekend staff. Your energetic and positive approach will help maintain a safe and nurturing environment. We provide training and sleeping accommodations (at our sponsored residential home) for overnight staff members.
NOTE: This is not a facility with multiple clients and multiple staff. This is direct support to one private client and you are the staff member responsible for their care and safety i.e, med administration, meal prep, transportation, hygiene routines, light housekeeping, etc. Some personal care is required but the client can shower, toilet, dress and feed themselves. However, the client does require you to provide a safe environment, ADL reminders, time management assistance, task redirection, modeling and behavior de-escalation.
This is a great experiential position for students pursuing healthcare careers, education, special education, psychology or behavioral/mental health. This is also an ideal fit for people who work in any of the above fields and are looking to earn extra income on an as needed basis.
